FIGHTER SOUADRON 52 VE-52, the Sea Lancersi' squadron, was Formed in August IQ!-L8 when the old squadron ot VE-5 was decommissioned after long and honorable service in World war II. In IQ!-LQ they were one of the First West Coast squadrons to receive jets, training I5O Navy and Marine pilots in their First jet Flights. 'In early lQ5O they exchanged their I:-80s For EQES and went aboard the USS VALLEY FORGE For a cruise in the Far East. Operating with ATG-5, they were on hand For the outbreak ot the Korean war and became the First squadron to Fly Navy jets against an enemy of the United Nations. I VE-52 returned to Korea in the VALLEY FORGE again in IQ5I, as a part ol: ATG-I and completed her second combat tour in June ol: I952. In March of I953 they embarked in the USS BOXER, once more as a component ol: ATO-I, to continue carrying the Fight to the aggressors in North Korea. They were aboard the BOXER when the truce was signed and became the only squadron to be present at both theiibeginning and ending ol: the Korean conflict.
