ALF L. FREEMAN, Principal
We at Box Elder may well be proud of the rich and varied achievements we inherited from our fore-
fathers. Regardless of the perspective, be it national, state, or local, we are deeply impressed by the
realistic challenge our past history presents.
Early in the seventeenth century a sturdy band of free thinkers challenged anyone's right to limit their
method of worship. These men and women left their homes and willingly braved the dangers of stormy
seas rather than submit to autocracy. They fought hostile Indians and severe climatic conditions doggedly
and successfully and at no time did they consider giving up their freedom for protected comfort.
About two centuries later in America another group of determined men and women started their
memorable trek westward to maintain their right to worship God according to their beliefs and just as
doggedly fought a hostile country, unfriendly natives, a stubborn soil and innumerable hardships just to
foster that sprit of freedom so dear to the hearts of all of us. The net result is a legacy bequeathed to us
from the past that is rich and precious beyond description.
It is their silent, unselfish, but sincere admonition to the present generation that, as we accept these
gifts from the past, we also contribute to this rich heritage they have so generously bestowed upon us.
A. ELWYN SEELEY, Vice Principal
