Vice-President Charles Kelley Secretary-Treasurer SPONSORS Miss Belle Potter Mr. W. B. Kerr C5155 pl 0l9A6Cg As we, the Senior Class of 1945, come to the end of our high-school days, we do not look back on the past years as being filled with hardships and regretsgf instead we remember the good times we have had in preparing ourselves for the future. Because of the uncertain conditions of our world, many of the boys and some of the girls will take their places in the armed forces of our country to help make this world a better place in which to live. But the nations will not always be at warg and, when the lights go on again all over the world, there will be many things for us to do. We, the members of this Senior Class, will have to take our place in helping to build the future, not only of our own country, but of the other coun- tries as well. We shall have to build our nation with such a substantial foundation that it will never again be threatened with war. In a class prophecy it is sometimes the custom to prophesy for each individual a future, but in a class of so many members it would be impossible to do this. Judging from past records, however, we can say that not only the class as a whole, but every individual has proved himself efficient and capable. Therefore we predict for each of them a very bright and successful future. OJ P d 4, 60 I , V ' fc? J yt, J! 0 Q I E QI Ml., L THE BEACON 5.,f: f 9 . Q!! 3 , r Y!-V ' ALI! LAP , 7' 4. 1.1 . . G. High. Yes, here's to the class '45, The pride of the last decade, It's by people like those among us here That history has been made. It's in a melancholy mood That we stroll down alumni lane, To our alma mater we bid farewell, Never to return again. No doubt, some day in years to come Weill think of a happier day When we were back in B. G. High, And with a lump in our throats we'll say. Oh, just to be in school again Perusing books that quote Of Cromwel1's greatest deeds on earth And plays that Shakespeare wrote! After reading these verses, I'm sure that you In sympathy will say, Old boy, it seems since y0u're out of school You're in a rather bad way. In addition to this they made programs and decorations for the Schoolmasters Club and many other banquets including the Speech, Music, and Pen and Palette Banquet held in the Helm Hotel on October 30, 1944, and the Senior Dinner. The Purples opened the season on September 29 at Louisville against Male High and, although they never quit, went down before a much heavier, stronger, and more experienced team 40-6. The following week the Purples bounced back to rout Franklin-Simpson 51-0. Fri- day, October 13, proved to be very unlucky, as the team was upset at Henderson 12-0. Then the Purples returned to Bowling Green to defeat an old rival, Glasgow, by a 31-0 count. On October 27, at Murray, the Purples went into the fourth quarter with the lead: but bad breaks caught up with the team, and Murray came from behind to win 35-19. Hopkinsville's strong eleven was too much for an injury-ridden Purple team the next week-Hopkinsville 37, B. G. 7. The next game proved to be lucky number 7 , as the Purples took an early lead and coasted to a 26-0 win over the Glasgow Scotties in a return engagement. The following week, reserves played most of the game as the Purples again routed Franklin 47-0. On November 24 the Purples cele- brated their Homecoming game against Owensboro. Led by Jimmy Allen's sensational broken- field running and Dick Heman's superior passing, the Purples played perhaps the greatest game that they have played in the last four or five years, and won from the unbeaten Red Devils a hard-fought, nip-and-tuck battle 27-25. In the traditional Thanksgiving Day game the Purples smothered Russellville 40-6 to complete another winning season. 42 THE BEACON FIRST ROW, left to right: Forrest Wallace, Pete Anderson, Bobo Davenport, Dick Heman. Emerson Milton. SECOND ROW: Wilson Cook, Clarence Musgrave. R, D. Floyd, Joe David John- son, Bobby French. BACK ROW: Manager Ben Davis, Coach Elvis Donaldson. Manager David Faxon. Again the Bowling Green High Purples had a brilliant season, The Purples went into the District Tournament with a seasonal record of seventeen wins and two losses and an eighth place ranking in the entire state. Both District and Regional Tournaments were won with com- parative ease, and for the third straight year Bowling Green High represented the Fifth Region at the State Meet in Louisville. At the State Tournament Bowling Green High School won their first game, defeating Clark County 46-40. Although they were beaten by Male. who later won the championship, the Purples displayed enough ability to be rated one of the top quintets in the state. B. G. H. S. OPPONENTS B. G. H. S.
