BOYS' BASKETBALL OF 1947-48 Under the coaching of Mr. Lensegrav, the Bowdon Beavers had a considerably successful season, winning 17 games and losing 4. The Beavers chalked up eight consecutive victories before bowing to the Alumni. The second loss came at the hands of the strong Fessenden Five. The Beavers were definitely off at this game. Then came the county tournament where the Beavers lost their third game 32-31 in an overtime with Cathay. Missed shots at the free throw line spelled the difference for the Bowdon boys. Bowdon took consolation honors by trouncing Heaton 63-28, while Hurdsfield won the championship by defeating Cathay 28-27. Marlin johnson was placed on the all-county team. The Beavers went on by winning 7 more games before losing to Robinson in the District Championship game. Due to bad weather the team was forced to cancel three games, two with Tuttle and one with Robinson. The Captain was Marlin johnson and Co-Captain, Arlo Unterseher Marlin johnson and james jesse were placed on the all Sub-District team Marlin johnson, Arlo Unterseher and jack Krueger were placed on the all District team.
