OPENING SCHOOL PROGRAM We began our year with a talent program. The big night, November 17, 1947, proved to many of the Bowdon residents and others that our high school has some very promising singers and actors. Those singing solos were: Donna Rodacker, Gurmen Schimke, Phyllis Fortney, Norman Schaubert, Audrey Kelm, Elaine Graupman, Lois Krause, and Marlin johnson. . To sparkle up the entertainrnent there were six eighth grade girls who sang, 'six Little Maids taken from The Mikado. Near the middle of the program a one-act play was presented, Hans Von Smash It was put on by some of the freshmen and sophomores. The cast included jack Grover-Hans Von Smashg Marlyn Schaubert-Mr. Batch, jack Krueger-Henry Dasheri Bob jesse-Mr. Prettyman: Donna johnson-Mary Batchg Clara Mae Rexine-Susie Patchg and Ardyce Thorstenson as Katie, a servant. The play was very amusing and pro- duced many a laugh. The girls ensemble also sang. This group included most of the high school girls. Their nurnber, Dedication, was well sung and directed. In between numbers, Mr. Simmons and the band gave us some nurnbers which included Little Rastus and Pursuit Squadron. Miss Hehr directed the play and the other musical numbers. We thank her and Mr. Sirnmons for making it possible for us to present this program. We took in S51.95. There was an expense of Sl0.91. This left the net proceeds as S-40.94. The money was used for part-payment for a new set of Compton's Ency- clopedia for the high school library. THE CHRISTMAS PROGRAM The school's Christmas program was held on the night of December 23, 194-7. Every room contributed to some part of it, thus making it a big success. Composed of 76 voices, the seventh-eighth grades, and high school sang, Oh Come All Ye Faithful in two parts. A group consisting of 17 boys sang, O Little Town of Bethlehem in four parts. Their ability surprised many of their parents and friends. The high school girls ensemble, which was in three parts, sang a minor piece, My Sheep Were Grazing. Mary Ellen, Doreen, and Audrie served as an echo chorus in the refrain. The first to sixth grades, inclusive, formed a human Christmas tree, under the direction of Miss Aslakson. This was arranged very effectively by means of steps beginning with the smallest and ending at the top with one sixth grade girl fArla Maej. Several group combination as well as solos rendered the beautiful, age old carols. The band under the direction of Mr. Simmons, rendered a medley of Christnias carols. We thank our faculty for their time and work that they put in so that we would have an enjoyable evening.
