FRESHHAN INITIATION what do you have to wear? I wonder if we will get the electric chair? Aren't you scared? All these remarks came from a class of sixteen green freshmen in the year of 1946. Yes, October 23, was just one day off. Let us look in on some of our freshmen the night before the eventful day. First, we look into the window of the Fortney home, and behold everything peaceful and quiet. Ohl but who is this just opening the closet door. Why, 1t's dear little Phyllis coming out with all types of clothes. The same thing is happening in all the other freshmen homes. Well here it is time for school. We see them com1ng.well what's this,we see Jim Kunz with some type of conclomeradon. Is this what Phyllis Fortney was looking for last night? I wonder if her father will miss that big sheepskin overcoat.I can't imagine who those old ladies are that I see walkingup the street, oop's, sorry that's Arlo and Jim. Say, what's this, a walking baby? Oh! that's Gurmen. Doesn't he look adorable in those pretty blond curls? The rest of the class were dressed as fat women, farmers, glamour girls, and gunny sack boy. In this manner the freshmen spent the day to the enjoyment of the rest of the school. In the evening the sophomores had everything planned. We started the party with movies to ease our minds a bit.Wevnre then asked to remain in the assembly until they called for us in the basement. We did not merely walk to the base- ment as one ordinarily would, but we Hrolledn through tires for the length of three flights of stairs. After getting one selves in shape for the next persecution, we were asked to be seated. The sophomores began to ask rather embarrassing questions and performances of us. Doreen was asked toch five simple reducing exercises, and I wonder why Phyllis Fortney and Jimmy Kunz were pronounced Drlppy and Droppy in the mock wedding which was performed before Gurmen Schimke. We then were blindfolded and pushed off into another room. Did this mean the electric chair? I bet it did. Oh! it just can't be. Doreen added to the excitement by one of those Hfaken faint- ing spells. All it finally amounted to was to remove our shoes and stocking and walk through some nice cooked noodles ----er---a, I mean worms. The boys were next to recelve the rough treatment, which was given by the girls and what was it. Nothing else but a nice Hsoothingu fnclalu. Ho, did I say soothing! The first step, of course, was the base,wh1ch was cold cream, and then the powder, or do I mean flour.Thls ended our torture plus a few more acts. We then ended our party w1Lh but dogs and cokes. It wasn't so bad after all. 1IOXI vim n 11,, Jfv-fuilnulrl?
