OPERETTA Purple Towers, an operetta, written by Don C. Wilson is a musical romantic story of pretty Mary vanderlip and the handsome writer Phil Bradley. Mary Vanderlip, helressanuimnr er of Purple Towers, returns from her school in Paris to find that her agent has leased the property to Miss Urseba Apple- gateg and also to Phil Bradley, who rented it becaua hewanb- ed to describe the home of his father's bitterest enemy who was Mary's father. During this time, however, Purple Towers had been in use by Red Nichols, a prize fighter, and his man- ager, Earl Parker, who are using it for training quarters.De- ciding to make their escape, they discovered that they had left the contract for a great fight at the place. They wish- ed to return so they told everyone the house was haunted. Miss Applegate is not the type of person to believe in this, and so she proceeds to invite everyone at Centerville railway station to her home for a party. Even Phil Bradley who as yet didn't know if he or Miss Applegate was to have Purple Towers accepts the invitation because of his love for Mary Vanderlip, now known as Mary Marble, who was mistaken for the Applegate cook. They all left for Purple Towers in Hank's Pink Taxi Upon reaching Purple Towers they searched high and low for the contract, which gives a good clue that the place was haunted. Snowball-Phil's valet, and Tillie-the maid, are es- pecially frljhtened. Tillie collects everyone's valuables and accidently exchanged one belonging to Red. Mary gets the blame for this. She cannot reveal her identity because she loves Phil and she's afraid he'll hate her when he finds out that she is the daughter of his father's bitterest enemy, but before long Red and Parker are caught and everything is ex- plained. Phil Bradley being so in love with Mary Marble for- gets his dislike of the Vanderlip family and the curta1nfaDs with the prospect of a wedding. The whole operetta is accompained by the gingham chorus and solos from most of the characters.
