The schedule worked extremely well. Another new achievement was computerized report cards. This past year the report cards were only experimental, but the results were very gratifying. The New jersey College Fair, for the exchange of information, was held at Bound Brook High School, and at press time, the Guidance Department was planning a Career Day for the early spring. The other semester is elected from such offerings as l'Science Fiction, llThe Mysterious and the Macbreff or UEnglish for the College Bound. Along with the basic concern of improving students' reading skills, the Reading Department has been engaged in many activities. They held an International Breads Bash in conjunction with their Around-the-World Unit. Seventeen different loaves of bread representing numerous ethenic groups were brought in and sampled. Students made their own helium filled balloons and gondolas for the Science and Invention Units, thus tying in other content areas with reading. Students also constructed a two hole golf course for the Sports Unit. This activity emphasized following directions and sequence skills. Other plans include developing a Math Lab. The Math Lab would provide a place where students could go during study halls to receive extra help, aid compensitory education, or study for the P.S.A.T.'s and S.A.T.'s. The Industrial Arts Department also prides itself on providing practical applications of the more academic subjects such as mathematics and sciences. Reading technical manuals, the student is actually improving his overall reading skill. One of the highlights of Industrial Arts is the Craftsman Fair held at Woodbridge Center each year. The Music Department has undergone increased interest this past year. More students are becoming involved with the marching band, concert band, and stage band courses. The semester courses in guitar are also quite popular, and the Music Theory course, though small in enrollment, still offers the interested student advanced training in music. Why buy clothes when you can learn to make your own? There's no need to go to a tailor when you know how to make alterations or fix a torn seam. Food costs are constantly rising, but students can learn to make tasty dishes while using less expensive meats and vegetables. These are just a few areas that Home Economics can help. Another important area is teaching a student how to function when he or she goes out into the world. Most students would like to have their own apartments, but it is the Home Economics Department that teaches students how to live on their own. Plans for the future include the possible revamping of mini courses into semester courses. A new course for ninth graders entitled i'Fundamentals of Social Studies is being developed. The Z Club, which is advised by Miss Crew and led by President Tina Mickel, Vice President MaryAnn Trombadore, Secretary Ianice Steinhauser and Treasurer Sue Havran, has continued its holiday work. The club visited a hospital during the halloween season, and, along with the Key Club, sponsored a community Christmas , party for the children. The Christmas party was held at Codrington Park Fieldhouse and was a massive success with well over a hundred children attending. The Key Club, which is advised by Mr. Franzyshen and led by President joe Vischetti, Vice President Nick Palczuk, Secretary Ben Fiorentino, and Treasurer Stan Zagula, has also been involved with the community. Besides helping with the Christmas party, the Key Club had a ood collection for the needy, They also planned to hold a community paper drive as well as gettin involved in the FISH program. The Key Club also played a major role in the annual chicken barbeque that the Kiwanis Club had at the recent 4-H Fair, The Interact Club was advised by Mr. Finnerty. The officers were President Ken Weldon, Vice President Rick Muniz, and Secretary-Treasurer joe Yarnell. The Interact Club undertakes the job of keeping the community informed by takin care of the message board in front of the high schoo? They also get involved with spring clean-up y taking care of the school grounds by the message board. The Nike Club was re-established this past year with the help of advisor Mrs. Kitchen. This club boasts 54 members and has held car washes and sold stadium cushions to raise funds. They have gone on an Appalachian hike, white water rafting, and a camping trip to New York State. They are also involved with lapidary, the polishing of stones for jewelry purposes. The Diners' Club was reorganized this year by advisor Miss Crew. The club is led by President joe Vischetti. Secretary Maureen Short, and Treasurer Renee Barbarevech. These students are res onsible for keeping everyone from hun er pains, and they have been very successful in this endeavor. The club sponsored frequent cookie sales, a caramel apple sale, and a great pie sale for Thanksgiving. Only in its second year, the Footlights Club has grown and is continuing to take theater trips throughout the local area and New York. The varsity team had a winless season, and, to put salt on the wound, many of the games were tough losses by only a few points. Even with all this adversity, it is easy to write about some positive things. Bound Brook sent three varsity players to the Mountain Valley Conference Team: senior linebacker Carmine Pirone, senior nose uard Dennis Romano, and junior defensive end Angxony Guido. Another item that must be mentioned is the great support shown by the students of B.B.H.S. during this season. The Boys' Varsity compiled a great 12-2 record and, once again, captured the M.V.C. trophy. The team also finished second in Central Jersey Group I and fourth in Somerset County. The boys were led by junior Dan Kopf, whose 16:01 time against Somerville established a new school record. Other juniors who made the top seven runners were Steve Huszar fbest time 161341, Todd Teryek tbest time 17:11l, and Charlie Lewis fbest time 17:26l. The remainder of the top seven consisted of seniors: Frank Nanna tbest time 162271, loe Wroblewski fbest time 16:42J, and Bruce Enalls tbest time 17:26l. Nanna and Wroblewski were also recipients of the team's M.V.P. award. Along with these top three seniors, other seniors who will be lost to graduation are Mike Tsivin, lim Lopa, Keith Fasanella, and Kevin Crowe. However, helping to pick up the slack, will be two outstanding sophomores: Mike Sullivan and Gary Graber, both Varsity letter winners. The rest of the help for the future will come from the l.V. team which compiled a 5-1 record this year. Men like Rigo Rivera, George Korn, leff Chambers, Ken Reese, and Bob Hawk should see plenty of action in the future. , f ee Dan Kopf fupper rightl displays his record breaking form. It seems that every year a new tennis team takes the court. This year was no exception with only four players returning from last year's squad: Deirdre Driscoll, Dina lmpellizeri, Debbi Spenger, and Kelly Clark. The rest of the team consisted of new comers to the sport. As a result, the girls struggled through an 0-14 season. Still, there were some bright spots. Tracey Stewart, second singles player and the team's M.V.P., won in the first round of the Somerset County Tournament. The team's captain and first singles player Deirdre Driscoll showed good improvement as the season progressed. Karen Wendt, only a freshman, played third singles and should really be a top notch player by the time she's a senior. Coach Kelly is also quick to point out that Tracey Stewart is the only senior on the team. The other ten girls consist of two juniors: Deirdre Driscoll and Dina lmpellizeri, three sophomores: Kelly Clark, Debbi Spenger, and Karen jones, and five freshmen: Marcie Tuzzo, Karen Wendt, Regina Laemastra, Laura Provenzano, and MaryBeth Woldin. If these young girls continue to play the game, B.B.H.S. may yet become a power in girls' tennis. Mr. Sepkowski replaces Mr. Holiday as head coach. There will also be two new assistant coaches, Mr. Kelly in field events and Mr. Kania in jumging and running. The three coaches are anticipating a etter than 500 season with many experienced men returning. In their final season for B.B.H.S. will be Bruce Enalls 1hurdles, long jump, and 4 X 400 relayj, joe Wroblewski 1800 and 4 X 400 relayi, Frank Nanna 11500, 30001, Dennis Romano 1field eventsl, loe Ciminelli 1field eventsj, Vince Orofino 1field eventsj, Rich Schindelar 1pole vaultj, Mike Tsivin 130001, and Keith Fasanella 1dashesJ.
