The evil of men live after them, the good is often buried with their bones as it will be with our class. We shall give you the facts--just the facts. At 8:h5 one morning in September the year of nineteen hundred and forty-three, Miss Harnet was to have the honor of introducing the senior class to their first real adventure, School! She was thrilled when she saw the shining faces of Myrna Slaybaugh and Margaret Patterson. Even Kenny Nichol couldn't dampen her spirits. Bravely she faced the coming year with Arlen Pederson, Gordon and Roger Hall, to say nothing of Timmy Bond. These students C?j went through many ingenious devices before passing the first grade, Their favorite was something new called the spit wad, As the second grade increased in knowledge, it also increased in size under the direction of Miss Olson. The newest additions to the crowd being Keith McLean, Janis Gonitizke, and Duane Jaques. Along with Halloween and funny faces came Audrey Jones to make the class complete. Their specialty that year was nature study, though no one remembers what nature of study it was. In the third grade zeros became as common as colds and the cloakroom was usually used for punichment for giggling girls. Miss Campbell was the teacher for that year and the lesson became discipline, which was promptly forgotten when escaping school that year. Lee Weber made his entrance in- to our class quite silently so we weren't sure whether or not he was in our class. Fourth grade started with song and ended the same. We learned all a- bout Mrs. Mastvelton's cat who could run on piano keys, She even tried to straighten out all the crooked backs we had, but from the looks of things she had a time to straighten out the crooked minds. Luther Larson brought fun and a small bit of common sense to the class and his Nshickensn and Hshairsn were overlooked. Another addition to our unseemly little crowd was kern Heider. Miss Haakenstad pulled us through our fifth grade Hyeographyn and the monotony of this year was broken by Blaine lindstrom who was part of our class for one semester, She cou1dn't stand us any longer. . We approached the sixth grade with much fear. Our first man teacher UT- BJOPHSOH was to put uS through that year. we were honored by the presense of Rodney Wetzel, Howard Beyer, and Phyllis Lemieux. Mr' Biornson collected many balls, marbles, and so on that year. We think he probably mad a fortune selling them during the summer. He never did get Lutherns ncopenhagenn because he didn't bring it to school, . Arlen Pederson made another entrance into the senior class when we arrived at the seventh grade, This year is crowded with memories of Mr. Sinclair and his famous and oft' repeated words which are still used by various teachers, In his booming voice he would say, nThe Bell Has Rungln He was Very C0HVinCing too. No teacher has quite attained the effect that his words did, Z4 . l . Eighth grade, slit wads, and trips to the study hall remain fixed in the seniors memories, We weren't quite old enough to join the high school parties and not qiite young enough to go to the central school parties. What a disillusionment! The bright futures of the better scholars were dulled by.the new and brighter scholar, Gwen Lee. Lively Viola Hoff kent the students with vivid imaginations laughing most of the time, Besides, she could yodel better than most of us, Green, green, green, freshmen is what Botno Hi beheld as Virginia Brandvold, Martin Boguslawski, Orbin Brandvold, Glenn Brandjord, and Lona Fugere entered. Mr, Bangs even smiled bravely when John Johnson, Ramon Johnson, Wendell Lillistrand, and Virgil Mortenson with hair all sliched up said, nHi 'ya R.W.' This was the year we should have had the cloakroom for giggling girls as Kerin Oelshlager was so kind to join us. The Thorsgaard's, Harvey and Allan continued to aid us in making life miserable for our teachers, while Jean Ralston, Doris Rassmussen, Wayne Vedquam, and Marvin Brandvold completed the list ofHGreeN feshmen. Ancient history and biology were made mlch more interesting with the help of Omar Hamnes, Orlando Shefflo, and Allen Lundy, Wayne Wall honored us with his presence by coming clear from Detroit to join ns while Shirley Martel and Lyla Bergeron came from Willow City, Not too big a difference between Detroit and Willow City, I'd say, We learnt this in nyeography,H Billy Siercks started the junior year off with a bang. Even MT. Borchgrt's spirit was shaken when he was that bright and shining face. Did we say bright? This was the year of the secrets of whispers but it did leak out that it was the best prom ever. Along with PDP and tickets for speeding came LeRoy Vannett and Lowell Fafnis. They added so much to our mixed up bunch. Let's start with Chemistry, We recommend that everyone take Chemistry. It's lots of fun and easy. Did we say easy? Well it's fun and educational. We've felt very proud that everyone in school complemented us on ourlQS gas Crotten egg gasl. Many juniors felt that Bookkeeping would be a bigger help to them than Chemistry. I wonder if it was! We surely can't forget the top honors given to us in History and English class. Honors were for bluffing through our tests and were given by Miss Stewart and Mrs. Weeks respectively, Poor Mr, Fedje, what a year he's had. We seem to always hear him saying, WAll those with no errors raise your hand.n we don't get much hand raising exercise. Oh well, give us time, We're im- proving, Of course, studying wasn't all we did this year. We put on a very good pla , 'Uncle Fred Flits By.' We had a very nice Prom and banquet too, Our class is very well represented in Band,Concert Choir, and athletics! Alvin, Darrell and Arlan made first string in basket- ball and Jerry and Alvin are our next year football captains, Barbara was chosen for cheerleading and Harriet and Betty as Queen candidates, We'd better get busy, see you next year! 26 Class of '56 President ----------- B etty Richard Vice President ------- Harri et Berg Secretary ------------- Janice Pewe Treasvrer ---------- Barbara Nelson FIRST ROW: Laura Mahler, Sharon Ckuistenson, Norma Beyer, Doris Fugere , Betty Richard, Kay Shank, Harriet Berg, Barbara Nelson, Carol Ormberg, Donna Davidson, Irma Foster, Virginia Trambley, Shirley Knutson.
