If you don ' t flunk out your first year, the different organizations around campus figure you ' re a sate bet tor the next three years, and bid for your member- ship. As for clubs there were: tlie Drama Club, the Glee Club, Hellenic Club, Orthodox Club, Unity Club, Wesley Club, Bios Club, Math Club, Newman Club, and ... or would you like to join the Brotherhood Council? Dorm Coun- cil? Catholic Council? Student Council? or . . . You were happy when you could relax by yourself, read the BU NEWS and learn that . . . During the summer we purchased Braves Field and renamed it Boston University Field . . . Dr. Wendell Yeo and Dr. Robert Oxnam were appointed Vice-Presidents . . . Dr. Duncan Macdonald became Dean of the Grad School, Dr. Linwood Chase, Dean of Ed, Dr. Howard Thurman, Dean of the Chapel, Dr. Shields Warren, Chairman of the Trustees, Dr. Melvin Brod- shaug, Dean of SPRC . . . The Theatre Division was transferred from the jurisdiction of SPRC to the College of Music, set up a council of Participating Directors, and moved into the newly acquired Esquire Theatre . . . The Uni- versity was shocked and greatly mourned the loss of John Pappas, Ed Senior, who was fatally injured in the Syracuse football game . . . 875 hopefuls rushed 28 social fraternities and sororities . . . Before 13,000 people Jean Rambeau was crowned as the first Miss Homecoming . . . The first graduate of CBA and Dean of PAL since its inception, T. Lawrence Davis, passed away . . . the new Hillel House opened on September 26 . . . Osgood Hill was presented to the University as a conference site . . . Mrs. Edward Collier began her 25th year as Director of Publicity . . . Tex Beneke played for the Military Ball . . . Scarlet Key tapped Mrs. Case, Dr. Yeo, and 88 undergrads in two ceremonies, made public for the first time . . . nB defeated Ti B in the Powderpuff Bowl . . . The five-story Admiral Building was added to the University . . . Don Murray of the SPRC faculty was awarded the 1953-54 Pulitzer Prize for dis- tinguished editorial writing . . . We celebrated the 25th anniversity of the granting of the first Journalism degree and the fifth an- niversity of SPR C, the first Public Relations school in the country . . . The Light Opera Asso- ciation presented The Mikado, a repeat of their first production twenty-five years before . . . An Arnold Air Society unit was formed . . . Kn won first prize in the PAL stunt night . . . Seminary singers went on their 27th annual concert tour . . . 50,000 square feet were added to the main campus when the Llniver- sity bought Jones, McDuff ce and Stratton build- ing . . . The Human Relations Center was estab- lished . . . 400 Greeks danced at their Formal in the Hotel Somerset, Feb. 6 . . . Dr. Speare and Harry Agganis became the first men se- lected for the BU Sports Hall of Fame . . .
