But the Punch Line of Haynes, Clopeek, and Ilixon poured it on and managed to make the final score 5 to 6. Clopeck exemplified B.U.'s fighting spirit when he scored the final goal with only 40 seconds re- maining. After this second heart-breaker, the Terriers defeated New Hampshire and then went on a week-end trip to VVest Point and Princeton. The Terriers downed Army infia close one, 4 to 3, and then outskated Princeton, 8 to 1. The first night at home, Northeastern was walloped, N HOCKEY Smitty Capt. The Punch line However, from the beginning of the 1947-194-8 season, there could be little doubt that Cleverly had done it again. The Scarlet and White buried each team they met until the Dartmouth tilt at Ilanover where they suffered their first defeat. The game was a real battle as evidenced by the score being tied, 5 t.o 5, at the end of the regulation sixty minutes. Early in the overtime, Dartmouth scored and then the Big Green successfully held the Terriers at bay until the period finished. The Boys from B.U. returned to Boston vowing vengeance .Icrry and ,I urgy and the other teams in the league suffered at the hands of the disappointed icemen. I-Ioly Cross was buried 13 to 5, and shortly afterward, Brown succumbed, 13 to 2. Then the Indians from Ilanover roared into town again and before one of the biggest crowds in the arena this season, Dartmouth edged B.U. 6 to 5 in another hotly contested battle. Ilixon scored the first goal at 2:50 minutes of the second period. Dartmouth tied the score at 1-1 and then Ilaynes rifled a shot past goalie Desmond. Captain Ben is lied up 12 to 2. A very tired but slill effective l3.U. team de- feated l3.C. 5 to 3 at the Arena. After playing four games in five days, the Terriers were not up to par but they outplayed the B.C. sextel for lhree periods and earned a well-deserved victory. Norwich was downed, 7 to 3, in a tune-up for the return game with Harvard. The Ter- riers then pulverized the Crimson defense with a bris- tling opening stanza attack, and eoasted in to win 10 to 6. Bell and Kirrane flashed the red lamp twice, while Gibson, Anderson, and thc omnipresent Ikon Bevins each contributed greatly to the Scarlet cause. NVl1ile the Punch Linen of Haynes, Clopcck, and Hixon have been leading the team and the New England Inter-collegiate Hockey League in both goals and as- sists, the team as a whole is a smooth working outfit. On the defense side of the picture Jurgelevich, Ander- son, Gleason, Penchon, and Dutton have guarded the blue line commendably. While Jurgelevich has the ex- perience edge, both Anderson and Gleason have de- veloped rapidly. The strong point in the B.U. defense has been our cool-thinking, fast-acting Ikon Bevins. Ike has been outstanding all year and his amazing saves and acrobatic antics at the goal mouth have earned him praise the entire season. Coach Cleverly's future seasons look bright. The only regular he will lose at graduation will be Captain Ben Forbes, and Frosh mentor Swede Rosengren will supply added strength from his winning Freshman sextet. Sweel victory! ' X IQQ11 '
