somewhere between the visual percept of the gown and our new leaders and our reality facing us that this, yes, was senior year. somewhere in our own abysses of wonderment and privacy and search and most of all this search for something that was our own (and only ours) we emerged, unified somewhat by our upperclassmen status and the finally of our last years (the others having been given up in experimentation, tasting our strength) this year 1970 became real for us. it became as real as our job interviews and our graduate records and our student teaching and our mistakes (oh, and our mistakes) we rejected people and ideas and were liberalized and conserved and opened and we closed ourselves because we had become afraid of our own vulnerability, (our freshman days having been spent in the bliss of ignorance.) but mostly the growing sounds of our minds and our grasps for thoughts that were not yet even real all of it all of it became our senior year, our last aspiration here, our only promise for tomorrow ' s wisdom was yesterday ' s follies, re made.
