THE LOG l Scribe When Edmund f'Scribe Lewis took over Thad Roberts' job as janitor in 1929, he covered three school houses, the high school and the east and west side scnools. Mr. Lewis reports that at that time the boiler room floor in the high school was half covered with water, the concrete being just enough to keep the furnace out of water. At this time planks were the paths of travel. The present coal bin which Scribe built is a far cry from the one here when he took the job. The old bin held fourteen tons of coal and had to be filled almost every week. The new bin Mr. Lewis built holds one hundred tons of coal and is more convenient. Along with building a new coal bin, Scribe painted and fixed up the boys' basements in the high and grade schools. He also added a protective coatin of thin wood over the concrete blo ks at the north end of the gymnasiu . From 1929 to 1952 Scribe' has been janitor except for two yea s during World War ll when he wor ed in the shipyard. During these t o years the job changed hands fo r times, until it came back to Scrib Along with these achievements S ribe has made friends with all the s dents of this school. He always ha a smile and a cheery hello for veryone. Every class that has gradu ted from the high school has liked Scribe, For this reason we dedicate this page to him, our good friend an janitor.
