THE LOG KNOX-LINCOLN LEAGUE PLAY-OFF Newcastle June 1 1, 1951 SOFTBALL Hopes were high up to the last inning for the girls on Boothbay Harbor High School's team, and the Knox-Lincoln League Championship seemed comfortably tucked away. Then came the startling 7th, when the Waldo- boro girls nosed out the Boothbay Lassies 9-8. The game was played on Lincoln Academy field at Newcastle on June 11. The play-off contest was made necessary when the two teams ended the season tied for first place. The Seahawks got away to a flying start in the game, batting in four runs in the first inning. Waldoboro, meanwhile, could only bat in one. The second inning both teams failed to score. But in the next, the Harbor tallied once, while Waldoboro crossed the plate twice., Both teams came up with a pair of runs in the fourth and Waldoboro played another in the fifth. 1 Thanks to the home run by Priscilla Reed in the sixth inning, Boothg bay Harbor Waltzed out in front, 8-6. Going into the final frame, Waldoboro's bats broke loose and broke Boothbay Harbor's heart by pounding out three runs. Exactly enoughuto win, and copped the title in the last inning. POOR BOOTHBAY HARBOR! BETTER LUCK IN '52.
