The band is one of the largest and most important organizations in B.H.H,S., and is enjoyed tremendously by the towns- people. This forty-four-piece group owes most of its credit to their excellent and understanding director, Mrs. Katherine Lewis. who is greatly interested in the hand. and who has devoted a great deal ol' her time to help it. This year was an extra special year for the group, for they received the new uni- torms for which they worked so hard to get and so badly needed. Without the help ol' the town, certain church societies, V.F.W.. American Legion, special sales, litth and sixth grades. and individual do- nations. the band could never have reach- ed their goal for the uniforms. The design for the uniforms is dillerent from any of the other school uniforms. A special group along with Mrs. Lewis pick- ed the colors for the uniforms which are blue and gold. The band is a very busy group. and dur- ing the season have played lor several PTA meetings. local Music Festival. State Music Festival which was held in Port- land. V.F.W.. Memorial Day and Pop Con- cert. Our group may not be very large com- pared to other school bands. but we play our very best which makes up for it. Bruce Grover '53

THE CDRCHESTRA The orchestra is a functional part of the school activities. It is composed of high school and grade students-a total of forty- three. We meet on Mondays and Thurs- days generally, but in the spring the sched- ule is upset by the hand's outdoor re- hearsals. The orchestra has made several appear- ances this year under the capable direction ot' Mrs. Lewis. We played for the Senior Play, a Christmas show put on by the grades, the Kenniston Prize Speaking Con- test. the Rotary Club, the Eighth Grade Speaking Contest, and the Grades Music Festival. The annual Pop Concert was held on March 30th. The proceeds Hnanced the band and orchestra's trip to the State Mus- ic Festival which was in Portland on May 5th. Last year the orchestra received ex- cellent rating in Augustag we hope the re- sults will be as good this season even though several veteran players were lost through graduation. In June we will be playing for the Class Day Exercises and l'or the Commencement Day program.
