What Was Significant . . . Besides The Ides Hola de Espana Several Boonsboro High School students who were seeking adventure in a foreign country boarded a jet at the Kennedy International Airport on April 5th to begin a ten day excursion to Spain. The students toured many museums and famous cities such as Madrid and Toledo, took a boat ride to Africa, attended a live bullfight, ate squid, and relaxed among the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea. All in all, the trip proved to be a unique educational experience even though some unplanned incidences occurred, such as the bombing of the Escorial, a palace on the outskirts of Madrid where they were staying at the time. Spanish students from Boonsboro who attended included Kim Albert, Stephanne Gouker, Todd Easterday, Danny McClure, Ellie Shinham, Alice Wright, Kenny Smith, Chuck Palmer, Heather McKegg. Julie Emanuelson, Jackie Kerns, Shelli Lewis, Jeff Snoots, Eric Boyer, Shannon Mullendore, and Cheri Grove. What would a trip to Spain be without seeing a bullfight? About March 15th Of March? Boonsboro Student Named Annapolis Page of the Year Boonsboro High School senior, Dwayne Flook, was one of three Washington County students and one alternate chosen to serve as a student page during the 1985 Maryland legislative session. Dwayne spent two weeks in Annapolis — one week during the first forty-five days and the other week during the second half of the session — keeping bill books up to date, distributing handouts, relaying messages and making quick trips to the canteen for coffee or snacks for the delegates. He was “really impressed by the House and evidently they were quite impressed with him also. The seventeen-year-old son of Austin and Joann Flook of Keedysville, was presented the Thomas Hunter Lowe Award by the General Assembly for outstanding service as a student page. Flook's honor was made even more special for this was the first year that such an award was presented. The award took on extra meaning because it was bestowed upon Dwayne by the other 130 pages. The student pages themselves voted for the page they felt was most courteous, cordial, and hard working. In all, Dwayne said, it was a fabulous experience, there’s a lot more to it than running around fetching coffee. Delegate Paul Muldowney, District 3-A and Benjamin Cardin, Speaker of the House of Delegates present award to Dwayne Flook. Mr. Terry Doub officiates the ‘‘tug-of-war. 18 — Student Life Reflects Students Pull Together For the 13th year in a row, the annual “tug between classes was held under the supervision of Mr. Terry Doub.
