Activities of Boonsboro Senior High Students during a typical day. 8:30 and other means of transportation. Before-school activities include: a friendly visit with fellow students 8:45 announcements of the day’s events and the pledge of allegiance to the flag. 2 9:00 English starts the day for these freshmen. 9:50 These students show artistic ability to create worthwhile objects. 10:45 11:50 12:55 Horticulture students learn something — this is a tree. Students show off their typing skills. 6 2:35 1:45 A psychology experiment determines the direction of sound. A contemporary class’ mock trial found the student innocent. An informal discussion in French breaks the monotony in a unique way. 7 3:50 As the doors close behind these seniors, one day of students’ life ends. 8 The preceding introductory story was photographed by Melinda May. BOONSBORO SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL Boonsboro, Maryland FROM THE EDITOR’S DESK EDITOR-IN-CHIEF Joan C. Higdon 4t ono u C' 1 Another year has lapsed in the history of Boonsboro High School; and I, as the editors before me, must now pass on the editorship of the Chieftain. Although the title is passed on, the memories of being editor will remain with me for many years. It was a challenging adventure for me, but I gained much confidence by relying on Schiller’s advice, “He who dares nothing, need hope for nothing.” To Mrs. Beard, as well as the faculty and the student body, I extend my sincerest appreciation for their persevering support through out the year. Also, to the Chieftain staff, those who made this publication possible, I express my deepest and most cordial thanks for a job well done. Ultimately it is with greatest pleasure that I present to you the 1968 edition of the Chieftain. May it bring you many pleasant memories in the coming years. Sincerely, Joan C. Higdon 10 TABLE OF CONTENTS A D M I N I S T R A T I O N S B N I O R S 12 TO 25 26 TO 65 J U N I o R S s o p II o M () R E S 66 TO 75 76 TO 85 F R E S H M E N 86 TO 95 A C T I V I T I E S 96 TO 125 A T H L E T I e s 126 TO 153 S E N I 0 R D 1 R E C T O R Y 154 TO 161 162 TO 182 183 A U T () G H A P H S 184 TO 185 li 13 Dr. J. There can be no greater demand than that one should risk one’s life for the sake of one’s country. Yet each generation is faced with such a challenge, and we look with pride upon the record of their service. They have faced danger with bravery. Many bear the scars of battle. The commendations on their service include such statements as “Their personal bravery and great devotion to duty are in keeping with the best traditions of the military service. To all these we say, “Well done. Your school is proud of you.” 15 VICE PRINCIPAL Paul W. Bailey Frostburg State College, B.S. Pennsylvania State Univ., M.Ed. Vice-Principal.
