FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK When the impact of the important responsibility of becoming editor of the Chieftain first came to my attention, I resolved that I would consider this an opportunity. This opportunity would make a lasting impression in Warrior Territory. Then, when years roll on as years are wont to do, somehow, efforts will not have been for naught. Old friends will revive old memories, relive precious events, and remember long-sought yet unfulfilled dreams with every perusal. I would like to extend to the Chieftain staff my profound appreciation for its invaluable help. I would also like to thank the Chieftain advisor, the faculty, the student body, and others who co-operated to the fullest extent. Without their combined efforts this venture would have been in vain. Now, I would like to present this edition of the 1966 Chieftain to you. May it be one worth remembering. FAY ANDERS — EDITOR - IN-CHIEF Sincerely, 2

FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK America is built upon a dream. The cornerstone of the American Dream is, and must be, the school. Every person must find open to him the opportunity, through education, to draw upon the accumulated knowledge and experience of the past. In an age in which we begin with things unknown just a few years before, this becomes increasingly vital. And because the opportunities are so varied, it follows that the school must meet the needs of all types of interests and abilities, and not attempt to mold all to a common pattern. Neither race nor creed, wealth nor lack of it, should rise as a barrier to the fullest development of each life. To every generation should be given the opportunity to achieve that which will bring it happiness. The American Dream is not of the 'melting pot' in which all are cast in a common mold. It is a dream of a mosaic of many individual parts. It is our aim to develop this school so as to make the dream come true for all those who enter its doors. DR. J. WILLARD NEWTON Principal, Edinboro State Teachers College, B. S. University of Pittsburgh, Ed. M., Ed. D. 4
