Qfcbtofzq In September 1953 we entered Booker T. Washington High School as inexperienced fresh- men. Our advisors were Mr. Major, Mrs. Ruth, Mr. Powell, and Mr. Young. We feel their guidance helped us to better prepare for the next three years in that they set the standards of our high school education. As September 1954 approached, and as time grew near for us to re-enter school, we were more enthusiastic than ever, because we would be sophomores. Upon entrance, our homeroom advisors were Mrs. Duncan, Mr. Scott and Mr. Quick. Mrs. Duncan's section of the class experienced the thrill of winning for the first time The Athletic Rally. The honors of king and queen were bestowed upon Robert Brooks and Mozelle Mims, who wore and upheld the honors of the crowns proudly. It was through the time, patience and work contributed' by students, parents, and teachers that made the financial income so great. During that year, we experienced much participation in sports and clubs. During the season of the different sports programs, we were sometimes held in suspense, when the victory was in doubt, but we had learned to accept defeat as well as victory. And regardless of the outcome, we gained new friends. In the fall of 1955, we found two additional modern and attractive rooms as well as a new agriculture building. We knew that greater achievements could be reached with more equip- ment and more space. This added to the excitement of being Juniors and to the thrill of being a little closer to the desired goal. Our advisors were Mrs. Duncan and Mrs. Johnson. Again we knew the honor of winning The Athletic Rally. This time under the guidance of Mrs. Johnson's portion of the class. Patricia Totten and Norman Jarrett were crowned King and Queen. And because of Hilda Bracken's outstanding contributions of time and work, she was given the honor of being Miss 11A. A large number of our classmates were initiated into the Crown and Scepter Club. They were William Bradshaw, Virginia Curry, Maxine Ellington, Norman Jarrett, Alma King, Doris King, Barbara Lindsey, William Morrison, Ruth Martin, Ella Wease Maynard, Delois Maynard, Mozelle Mims, Ada Thomas and Patricia Totten. The major accomplishment was the Junior-Senior Prom. It was a beautiful affair, carrying out the theme of 'Tis Springtime. The music was furnished by the Rhythm Vets. We did an unusual thing, we invited the underclassmen. Then began the tasks of completing units and making the other necessary changes in prepara tion for our Senior year. May brought us the thrill of knowing we were at long last, Seniors. The fall of 1956 found us wiser, more mature, and better prepared to meet the unknown of the future. We now meet as a unit in which the officers are: President, William Bradshawg Vice President, William Motleyg Secretary, Edith Settle: Assistant Secretary, Delois Maynardg Treas- urer, Estella Smith. Our Advisors are Mrs. Johnson and Mis Campbell. This year Miss Camp- bell's section took second place in the Athletic Rally. Invitations, publication of the Annual, Class rings, the senior play, commencement exercises and the class project are factors in which we now possess a great interest. These go to help make us full -fledged seniors. Ruth Martin Historian
