IIS 0 I ' It is now fifty years since I was a senior at washington High School.JMv aae has QTTOWGG me to retire from the field of medicine I have no one to entertain me during the day except my tvo grand- children. As you know yiung children are very talkative and in- quisitive. One day they asked me to tell them a story. What shall it be, I replied, a Bible story, a fairy tale, or a story of history. The younp children began discussing the matter as usual. Sud- denly this stimulating query struck my eardrum. Grandmother, will you please tell us about your high school days? Here is the story that I am telling my grandchildren. In l9M8, we befan the school year as inexperienced freshmen, but we began Our school 1'-'OI k fervently and willingly. Our home room advisors were Mrs. Duncan, Mr. Young, Hrs, Eyrd and Mr. Grant Of course,1t made us happy to think that we won first place in the Activity Rally the first year that we were there. It made us even happier to see Fhirley Smith and Clinton Gravely cpgwned Queen and King. The winning of this drive improved our reputation in the eyes of the school but still we were considered green. In l9u9, we began ou1'sophomore vear in Washington High School with Mrs. Perkins, Mr. Quick and Nr. Townes as our home room advi- sors. ve had more experience that year than we had during our freshman year so each of us received our schedule and began striv- ing to make good grades. Since we won the Activity Rally the pre- vious year, I am quite certain we were expected to do likewise as sophomores. 'e did not reach our goal, we received second place. H7 Dears, in l999, when you are defeated you are so sad, but we were not. Thl?,defeat gave us real courage to try even harder in succeeding years The following fall ve pe-entepedschool as juniors in a busi- ness-like manner. Mrs. Rogers and Miss Campbell were our home room advisors, It was during that year that we contributed a great deal

to the reputation and improvement of our new school. Who had more inspiring voices in the Choral club than Charles Lampkins and Gene Lhtkihs? was there a better star on the football team than Lorenza Gaston? Pho cowld deliver an oration better than Ann Stewart? How many boys or girls tried to prove more faithful to the band than Troy Harriston? In my estimation there was not one .... no not one. One of tke most outstanding accomplishments during this year was the entertainment of the Seniorsgt ourJunior---Senior Prom . We turn d over a new leaf by not inviting the underclassmen. There were some sad faces...no freshmen...no sophmores. But still our prom was a success. Ute are near the oceaniwill we cross overH,was the thouvht of . most of the seniors as we began striving very hard to reach our goal Our advisors ere Miss Campbell and Mr. Quick, who were al- ways reminding us to build our personality on a solid foundation. My classmates and I realizej that time and tiie wait for no many there fore, we began working on our annual, ordering our rings and receiving our parts Ln the play as soon as we were able to make the proper adjustments. then graduation night came we were all happy, althoumh we did not want to depart from our loyal friends, because we felt as though we had striven to do OUP hast? and therefore, we were receiving our diplomas honestly. HThis is all, but there is one thing concerning punctuality. Listen closely write a term paper or make a survey, make to finish whenever you are required to do HWhank you grand mother.
