H. S. to gain admittance. The most important event of the year was initiation. With the beginning of the Sophomore year twenty five sophomores had reassembled for another school year. At the beginning of the second semes- ter Andrea Qualm and David Dummer left to enroll in other schools. Janice Brunmeier and Gene Miller enrolled for the second semester. Twenty-five juniors appeared for the school year. A short time later Shirley Lewis moved to Fairfax. The first money-making project of this year was the magazine drive. We sold refreshments at all home football and basketball games. "Dino" the Junior Class play was given April Z, under the direction of Miss Sutton. With the beginning of the Senior year Z1 seniors reappeared for another year of activity. The Class Officers for the senior year were: President, Sandra Haisch: Vice President, Gary Whiddeng Secretary-Treasurer, Phillis Schmitz. Vern Hermsen represented our class by winning excellent in the State Declamation in his junior year. Kathryn .Ions and 'Vern Hermsen were crowned King and Queen of 1957. Kathryn Jons, Arlo Mulford, Gary Whidden and Sandra Haisch represented us in local music contests. All of the boys were active in athletics during some of the years. Sandra Haisch was chosen D. A. R. Candidate. Our senior play "Me and Shakespeare" was presented Dec. 12. On March 27 and 28 we took a. chartered bus to Omaha for our sneak days. CLASS STATISTICS Class Flowers -Orchid. Class Colors - Rose and Silver. Class Motto - THE FOUNDATION IS LAYED-NOW TO BUILD. Atlthe close of this Senior year, we find ourselves looking through the doorway into the vast world of tomorrow. I, Paul Vaughn, will my ability to fall asleep in government class to Carroll Anderson so he will be quiet. I, Eben Bailey, will my football ability to Duane Smizer so he will be a football hero. I, Jerald Applebee, will my amazing speed to my brother, John so he can chase Jeannie Haisch. I, Tom Snyder, will my ability to study and get good grades to Linda Peterson. I, Vern Hermsen, will my ability to jitterbug to Larry Ohden. I, Gary Whidden, will my ability to sing to Kenny Qualm so he can entertain his girl friends. I, Leo Neilan, will my ability to throw the shot to Larry Schmitz so he will have muscles like mine. I, Arlo Mulford, will my ability to drink beer to Duane Smizer. I, Theon Wuest, will my ability to go steady with a college boy to Judy N Joyce so she can go with Ma1'1YI1- I, Kathryn Jons, will my numerous boy friends to Mary Jensen so she will have variety to choose from. I, Ruth Helmberger, will my ability to smile even when it isn't funny to Dennis Jons in hopes that he will cheer up. I, Bonnie Helmberger, will my ability to outline my government book to Gary Vogt so that he will be able to pass government next year. I, Janice Brunmeier, will my ability to stay in the assembly and study to Ronnie Bentson. . I, Loretta Counts, will my ability to stay out of trouble in the assembly to Ray Sip, hoping that he will keep quiet. I, Marlyn Fredericksen, will my ability to get my assingments done on time to Dick Odenbach. Mavis King came the second six weeks, but left soon after, leaving 19 once more. - Class officers elected were: President, Connie Hoffmang V-ice-President, Loren Siehg1Secretary, Isla Jonsg Treasurer, Don Aisenbrey. The student council representatives were Connie Hoffman and Loren Sieh. The Carnival King and Queen candidates were Loren Sieh and Melva. Sip. The first money making campaign was the annual magazine .drive which was followed by selling refreshments at all home football and basketball games. Members of the class participated in basketball, football, track, declamation, music, pep club, and girl's physical education. Carroll Anderson, Bill Leslie, Loren Sieh, and Roy Vogt lettered in football. Bill Leslie and Loren Sieh lettered in basketball. Patty McDonald and Phylis Neilan received superior and Connie Hoffman' and Bill Leslie received excellent at the home declamation contest. Patty McDonald and Phyllis Neilan repre- sented the class at the District Declamation contest. Bill Leslie and Patty McDonald were awarded excellent ratings at the music contest in Kimbal. Betty Dion and Melva Sip participated in the ensemble. The Junior Class play "One Wild Night" was given April ll. May 6, was the date scheduled for the Junior-Senior banquet. This was the largest class in the history of Bone- steel High School. On September 11, initiation WEB held. V All freshmen dressed in different costumes and spent the day carrying Seniors' books and polishing Seniors' shoes. All Freshmen agree that this event highlighted the year. The freshman class officers were: President, Francis Schmitzg Vice-President, Ronald Ludemanng Secretary, Dennis Jonsg and Treasurer, LeRoy Schmitz. Francis Schmitz and Judy Joyce were student council representatives. Mr. Burian was class sponsor. Ten boys went out for football and nine boys were on the basketball squad. Jeanne Haisch and Jerry Spitzenberger represented the freshman class as carnival king and queen candidate. Those participating in declam were: Humorous, Jeanne Haisch, Kay Lounsbery, Margaret Ann Young, Bonnie Leslie, and Judy Joyce, Poetry, Janet Tech, Beatrice Klundt, Mary Ellen Jensen, Barbara Johnson, Carol Brunmeier, Kay Aisenbrey, Francis Creekmur, and Raymond Sip. Three freshmen participated in the Region V vocal and piano contest at Kimbal. They were: Janet Tech, Soprano, Larry Schmitz, Tenorg and Judy J oyce, piano. They all received excellent ratings. Margaret Ann Young, Janet Tech and Bonnie Leslie sang in the girls' ensemble. Patty Litzo left the class at the close of the first semester to attend school in Valentine, Nebraska. Eleven freshmen boys and girls are members of the school band. Judy Joyce was chosen "B" team cheer- leader. In February Bonnie Leslie was "B" team cheerleader after Nita Sondgeroth moved. Five boys and eight girls sang in the mixed chorus.
