COMMANDER R T JANIEC Commander R T Janiec entered the Navy on Feb ruary 1 1943 under the V5 Aviation Cadet Program and was commissioned and designated a Naval Aviator in December 1945 After operational training in the SB2C Helldlver at Jacksonville Florida he was assigned to VB 98 at NAS Los Alamitos and VB 153!VA 15A at NAS Ala VRF 2 at NAS North Island for six months temporary duty followed by a tour of instructor duty at NAS Whit ing Field Milton Florida In August 1950 CDR Janiec was assigned to VC 33 at NAS Atlantic City New Jersey flying ADKNJ Sky rarders and in 1953 was transferred to NAS Alameda California where he served as AD Project Pilot in O8zR Flight Test Division CDR Janiec served as Operations Officer of VA 215 at NAS Moffett Field from August 1955 until his transfer to VF AW 3 at NAS Moffett Field in May 1957 In September 1957 he was ordered to USS YORKTOWN KCVS 103 and after attending Damage Control School reported aboard in January 1958 as Flight Officer until transferred to Headquarters Pacific Missile Range PT Mugu Cahforma in October 1959 While with the Pacific Missile Range CDR Jamec was the Range Shlp Coordinator Assigned to Staff Commander Car ner Division Seven until July 1964 While on this tour CAPTAIN JAMES A. de GANAHL . James A. de Ganahl was born on August 24, 1924, in Santa Monica, California. He graduated from the Naval Academy on June 5, 1946 with a bachelor's de- gree in electrical engineering. He was commissioned as an Ensign the same day- , He reported to his first permanent duty station, the USS RICH CDD-8205, in August 1946. In addition to his primary duties as Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer, he served as Assistant Gunnery Officer and CIC Officer. . On September 27, 1950, then-Lieutenant humor grade! de Ganahl was awarded his aviator's wings. On July 1, 1962, shortly after reporting for duty as Training Officer with Heavy Attack Wing ONE h was promoted to rank of Commander Captain de Ganahl became Executive Officer of Reconnaissance Attack Squadron NINE in May 1963 and served as RVAH 9s Commanding Officer from June 1964 until June 1965 during which time the squad ron deployed on the USS SARATOGA as the first RA5C Vigilante squadron to operate in the Mediterranean He reported for duty on the staff of Commander Naval Air Forces U S Atlantic Fleet and served there as Reconnaissance Training Officer until ordered to the USS BON HOMME RICHARD CCVA 31J1n June 1966 as ros ective Navigator p Calptarn de Ganahl reported aboard the BON HOMME RICHARD on September 9 1966 and became the ships Executive Officer on June 23 1967 Captain de Ganahl was appointed to his present rank on August 1 1967 while serving as BON HOMME RICHARD s Executive Officer , e n . Z PN3 Davis and JO3 Roush Personnel Office ADMINIS TRA TIO DEPARTME The Administration Department, representing a composite of the Executive Officer's assistants, pro- vides a variety of vital services for the ship and her The Admin Office, itself, coordinates the activities of the other branches of the Administration Depart- ment The Captain's Office handles most of the ship's correspondence and publishes and maintains all of the ships directives. The Public Affairs Office prepares the BON HOMME RICHARD's news releases, publishes the monthly magazine, assembles a daily newspaper and coordinates the operation of the ship's radio and television stations with the Electrical Officer. The Planned Maintenance Office keeps track of repair and maintenance work around the ship. Other offices within the department are the Chap- lains Office, Post Office, Separations, Career Coun- seling Educational Services, Master-at-Arms, Per- sonnel Legal and the Print Shop.
