The Senior Class Bolivar Central School Presents 1968 GUSHER Editor - Patty Starr Business Manager - Lesley Shannon Advisor - Robert Crowley Foreword This past year has been one of which you have made everyone proud, and we of the Gusher Staff hope this year- book in some way reflects this pride. We have tried to cap- ture those moments worth remembering by use of pictures vords. But pictures and words are not memories in V themselves. It is the people they stand for, their achievements. and their goals, whether attained or not. The teams, the organizations, the individuals,'have all ed throughout the course of 67 68. eded ornot is not the truly important ther they sui z. A SoUfld Apart from the daily school sounds are amplifications of students’ thoughts and tastes. Practical Experiences As our school years progress, we mature physically, mentally, and emotionally, but childhood is never completely lost. Growing Up Opportunity is provided to put accumulated knowledge into a tangible, useful form in preparation for future occupations. 3 Dedication Mrs. Arvida Wainman Each year the yearbook is dedicated to some deserving member of the school staff. Various people have earned this honor through hard work, unlimited energy, and an untiring concern for the students’ welfare. We, the Senior class of Bolivar Central School, are proud to dedicate the 1967-68 Gusher to Mrs. Arvida Wainman. Mrs. Wainman has devoted a major part of her life in helping students with their problems. She has brightened the everyday monotony of the classroom by devising varied extracurricular activities—from a science fair, to a trip to the Times Herald, to a class newspaper, which everyone enjoyed creating and reading. May Mrs. Wainman serve as an example of the ideals and qualities which this dedication represents. 4 In Mcmoriam Bernice Baldwin In August, 1967, Bolivar Central was saddened to learn of the death of Mrs. Bernice Baldwin, the junior high math teacher. Still now the school feels the loss of not only a dedicated teacher but a person of understanding. Throughout her 37 years at B.C.S. she was popular with the students, who are the most difficult to please. Alta Gormel Miss Gormel, who devoted 25 years to teaching fourth grade in our school, passed away last year. We will long remember her for her service, dedication to her students and to the teaching profession. Helen Cass A dedicated third grade teacher, Mrs. Cass will be missed by us all. Her quick smile and sincere friendliness will not be soon forgotten. Wayne Blauvelt The class of 1968 was shocked and saddened by the tragic and untimely death of one of its members, Wayne Blauvelt. During the past two years at B.C.S. without him, he has often been in our thoughts. 5 Board of Education SEATED: Merton Dunshie, Edward Campbell, George Bliss, Frances Yehl. STANDING: Richard Pounds. The importance of graduation and all the cherished memories of your high school careers will be reflected many times in the years to come. Our very best wishes for a happy and successful future, may your judgment be keen and your accomplishments many fold. RONALD STABLEY Advisor The qualified leaders lip of officers is equally important to he success of a class as the guidance of advisors. We, the class of 1968, have been fortunate in this respect. Our officers have labored diligently throughou the year sacrificing their time for the benef t of the class. Through their efforts the whole class has been rewarded with a year full of lasting memories. ROBERT SHERMAN Advisor One of the most important prerequisites for a successful and enjoyable four years in high school is that a class’s advisors be willing to aid their class. We all know how much our advisors have helped us -coming out in the cold to help with the refreshment stand and serving as a drop-off point for cards and stationery! So we, the Class of 1968, say “Thank you and we’ll never forget”-Mr. Robert Sherman and Mr. Ronald Stabley. Salzer, Proprieter Phone 928-1530 Bolivar, New York We Deliver The Bulldogs, finishing up 2-5, played better ball than their record shows. Games lost by a few points were common this year. With the right breaks the Bulldogs could have been right near the top. Most opponents got a run for their money, but made the points that counted. With inexperience the biggest factor, the Bulldog’s basketball season ended on the losing side. Underdogs from the start, the Bulldogs still gave many-a-team a run for their money. All in all this year’s team bettered last year’s record and broke the away-game losing streak with a double over-time win at Cuba.
