infer: of Kobe A CAPPELLA CHQIR A VOCAL symphony of the loveliest voices in Boise High formed this year an A Cappella Choir of which the school could be justly proud. The choir, under the skilled direction of Kenneth l-Iartzler, gave many performances for Boise people at concerts, churches, clubs, lodges, and on the radio. The red-robed group singing the melodious old religious music and the haunting spirituals was a Welcome sight to all music lovers. The effective Christmas candlelight service, presented in the rotunda of the Capitol, was the choir's outstanding achievement of the year. The dramatic department and the choir combined talents for the Christmas pageant given in the auditorium for the student body. It was the A Cappella Choir, too, which formed the nucleus for the operetta, 'Blossom Time. When an accompanist was needed, Mary Ann Zautz played the piano. CONCERT GIRLS' GLEE CLUB ISSUING from Mr. Hartzler's music room twice this year, in Cctober and Ianuary, could be heard many a feminine solo. If there was an occasional guaver of fear, it was because these girls were competing for a place in the Concert Girls' Glee Club. Any member of the various girls' glee clubs was eligible to try for admission into this select group of forty-five voices. Not only did the concert singers practice with their respective classes during school time but on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school they had special rehearsals. The Concert Girls' Glee Club made several public appearances. They sang two special numbers at the Christmas program in the rotunda of the State Capitol. They also sang one of the chorus num- bers in Blossom Time. In the spring these girls were heard over the radio. Iane King was accom- panist to the singers. GIRLS' GLEE CLUB V IF music washes away the cares of everyday life, there should be very few cares around Boise High School. Check up on the senior activities and you will see what an amazingly large number of students have taken music during their high school careers. Approximately ninety girls took girls' glee club during the third and sixth periods. The girls were admitted into these classes by try-outs. These classes proved a testing and training ground for the more advanced Concert Girls' Glee Club. Priscilla Shinn was accompanist for the third period class and Iane King for the sixth. The special dance numbers and choruses for 'Blossom Time were selected from among these girls. During the year the members enjoyed several coke parties, picnics, and an informal dance. I UNIOR CHOIR STILL in the early stages of development is the I unior Choir which was organized at the beginning of the second semester by Kenneth Hartzler. The Iunior Choir, taking the place of the Boys' Glee Club, has added girls to its personnel. Girls in the group are for the most part juniors and sophomores who will continue the work next year. Not only did the Iunior Choir add feminine singers but a lady took over the baton. Mrs. I-Iartzler ably stepped into the position of singing director while her husband became music master of the orchestras in place of Ernest Green, who joined the army. Although the choir was too young for a public appearance this year, the members practiced diligently on songs with which they can entertain next season. Z9
