F BLUE SPRINGS WINS COUNTY B TOURNAMENT After twenty-five years Blue Springs High School has brought home a TROPHY. In county competition our B team won over a strong Clayton five, by a score of Z3-20. Following is a description of the tournament and final game by Eudon Flynn who is captain of the B team and plays the position of center. After playing and defeating, Eufaula's B team 19-2.8, and Clio 41-13 we came to the main event, the third and final game with Clayton. All the boys were nervous because the trophy was at stake. At the begin- ning of the game all looked mighty disappointed for good ole Blue Springs. Clayton made the first field goal to start the game rolling. At the end of the first quarter the score showed Clayton leading 5-6. In the second ' quarter Blue Springs began to rack up the points, and at the half the score was 15-9 in our favor. At the beginning of the third quarter it began to get a little touchy--although the game was still in our favor, the score be- ing 18-15. By the third quarter our boys began to get nervous and throw the ball away. Then Mr. Sibert told us to settle down and play with the ball more. Until thelast four minutes of the game the score was Z1-Z0 in our favor. This is where we started the sincere and fighting spirit. The ball was passed smoothly enough, Clayton hardly touched the ball. In the last fifty seconds the score was still 2.0-21, until our small fighting hero, Billy joe Woodham, faked a careless Clayton man off and made the last two points which clinched the game as the whistle blew. We all felt mighty proud of ourselves because we knew this had been a good clean ball game. We just out-played the Clayton team. After the next game the trophies were given out and being captain of the team I went out on the floor to receive the prize. To me this was about the biggest moment of my life, because this was the first trophy won by Blue Springs since 1925, a period of twenty-four years. But I am quite sure it won't be our last. OUR HATS ARE OFF TO DELANE WILKINSONZ!!! Delane Wilkinson was chosen as the most outstanding player in bas- ketball competition for Barbour County this year. I know that this is something that is close to the hearts of every student, to receive honor in some field of competitive achievement. Delane Wilkinson, the students and the faculty of Blue Springs High School are proud of you and your achievement and more so they are proud of what you represent- -honor, sportsmanship, and ability. You are a crowning achievement for the school and community. Z 0 1 1 r
