Students Attend Kearney Event The Blue H1ll Publlc School was one of 98 schools partlclpatlng 1n the 1nter hlgh school contests held at the Kearney State Teachers College on Frlday March 31 Over 1500 students took part ln the varlous scholastlc contests The ranklng of the Blue H111 students was as follows Advanced Algebra Phyllls Kort was elghth IH a fleld of 30 Engllsh Llterature Mary Ann Vogel pohl was nlneteenth 1n a fleld of over 100 Engllsh Usage Phyllls Kort was nlnth and Shlrley Meyer eleventh 1n a fxeld of over 100 Bookkeeplng Lorralne Van Boen1ng ranked twelfth ln a fleld of 70 Beglnnmg Shorthand Shlrley Meyer was thlrtxeth and Mary Relber thlrty sec ond IH a fxeld of 55 The one act play recelved a ratmg of excellent The cast conslsted of Joanne Stoffregen Phyllls Kort Janet Kort Vel Mona Brewster Sctdle l-ldwklns Pdrty A scene from Dogpatch was trans ported to the Blue H111 Hlgh School gym on Frlday evemng December 2 1949 for the Sadle Hawk1ns party sponsored by the letter club The glrls tagged and escorted the boys to the party The party complete wlth k1Ckap00 Joy JUICE and straw was a huge success Chnstrnds Pdrty The Senlor Class sponsored the an nual Christmas party 1n the Blue H111 Hlgh School gym on Thursday evemng, December 22 The gym was decorated ln Chrlstmas style and w1th two Chrlst mas trees An exchange of g1fts and danclng were the entertamment of the evenmg Senlor Tour On May 11 at 7 a m the Senlor class wlth thexr three sponsors Mrs Bachman Mrs Wr1ght and Mr Rodgers left on a Yellow Dlamond bus for a tour of Colorado Sprlngs and v1c1n1ty We arrlved at Colorado Sprmgs at 5 p m and for the next two days we were on the go constantly We V1S1ted Royal Gorge and the hlghest suspenslon brldge ln the world Colorado State Prlson Pueblo Iron and Steel works Cave of the Wmds Seven Falls W1ll Rogers Shrlne Zoo Cllff Dwelllngs Garden of the Gods and many other polnts of lnterest Our head quarters was McLaughl1n s Lodge Brlght and early Sunday mornlng we left for home comlng through Denver on the re turn tr1p Everyone agreed It was a won derful tour and no doubt one of the out standlng act1v1t1es of our four years of hlgh school On Tuesday Aprll 18 Mr Marrow and hls track team journeyed to Clay Center to take part ln the Blg Elght Con ference track meet Clay Center won the meet w1th Blue H1ll a very close second Blue H111 was leadlng up to the last event Lawrence Goll led all 1nd1v1duals ln polnts w1th a total of 181 He placed flrst 1n the 100 yard dash 220 yard dash broad Jump and was 4th 1n the dlscus and shot He also anchored the w1nn1ng relay team Brown was flrst IH the h1gh hurdles t1ed for f1rst 1n the hlgh Jump was second IH the low hurdles and ran on the relay team Bachman was thlrd ln the 220 yard dash and he was on the relay team Cecll Leetsch was the other member of the relay team ma Parks, Lorraine Van Boening, and Big Eight Track Meet
