In addition to maintaining essential spare part storage for all departments, the Storekeepers must order, inventory and distribute everything from turbines to toothpaste, in short, everything to keep a small city running and comfortable as possible. The galley and its crew of Commissarymen together with the wardroom Steward's Mates serve over 700 meals per day every day of the year. Ship's Servicemen keep a twenty-four hour laundry watch, provide a barber for the crew, and run a ship's store where toilet articles, gedunks and gifts can be bought. Thousands of dollars in pay is tabulated and recorded monthly by the Disbursing Clerk. Allotments are computed, travel pay provided, and the entire ship's financial structure is handled by this department.
