M Division Ist row: Beinitz MMC, Kessler MMC, LTJG Barrett 2nd row: Tipay MMI, Herrea FN, Starr FN, Wolef FN 3rd row: Gonzalez MM3, Wireman MM2, Stetler MM2, Norris MM3, Collins FN, Thompson FN, Evans FN, Copple MM2, MM's The M Division, a subdivision of the Engineering Department, is subdivided again into two separate groups of personnel which are the Boilermen and the Machinists Mates, collectively known as ' snipes'. The Boilermen operate the boilers and fireroom equipment, transfer, test and take inventory of fuels and water, serve as members of damage control par- ties, maintain and repair boilers, pumps and associated machinery. The Machinists Mates have various jobs in the enginerooms which include Baron MMI Missing: Orr MMI, Lyons MM2, Johnson FN, McAnish MM2, Lieurence MM3, Hau FN TB's the maintenance of the propulsion engines Cturbines, reduction gear, condensersj and such related auxiliary equipment in the engineering spaces as pumps, compressors, evaporators, valves, purifiers, lube oil coolers, governors and propeller shafts. As watch standers, machinists mates stand pump watches, evaporator watches, phone talker, and throttle watches while the ship is underway. Without these sources of power there would be no illumination, no fresh water or prepared food, no firing of guns, no electronic communi- cation, and no movement of ship. Bushing, pins, gaskets, and Whole assembles are manufactured. Our several internal combustion engines provide a never ending Job for the Enginemen. Complete overhauls are effec- ted and minor adjustments made again and again. Public address systems telephones, and the entire communication of our ship as Well as the gyro and pitometer log are the responsibility of the IC Flectricians Connections improper speed or course indication all demand on the spot restoration at sea The Electrician gang has the vast duties of genera- ting and distributing the large loads of current about the ship, and the upkeep of the miles and miles of cabling that make their Way through every passage, hole and overhead throughout the ship. The repair and replacement of pipes, drains, hatches, ventilators, utilizing technical ability with Welders, braziers, and cutters is accomplished by the Pipefitters and Damage Controlmen, who as a team also insure the ship's watertight integrity - ,..t..,.,,,, t t : , : .
