The Student Council is the student governing body of the school. Some of the purposes of the Council are as follows: 1. To meet the needs of all students. 2. To promote respect for school and private property. 3. To promote courtesy and general good citizenship. 4. To encourage participation in extracurricular activities. 5. To legislate, to make recommendations, to take action. The Student Council is associated with the district, state, and national organizations, and is representative of the democratic society in which we live. The 1966-67 Student Council experienced a very prosperous year with Sharon Leonard as President. Tne main project the Student Council faces each year is sponsoring the Homecoming Activities such as the Coronation, the Alumni Banquet, the Bonfire, and the Parade. Each year the group builds the float for the Queen and her court. Also the Student Council sponsors many assemblies. One of these was a Veterans Day assembly at which time the school paid tribute to the World War veterans in Calhoun County. At Thanksgiving, food is collected and put in boxes to be distributed to needy families, (above) Elections are held at the end of each year to choose new officers. Below, Rudy Rackley delivers his campaign speech. Mr. Dan Dubroff and Mr. George Atkins sponsored the 1966-67 Student Council. 57 FIRST ROW: - Steve McClellan, Phillip Byler, Sharon Leonard, Rebecca House, Jeff Trammell, Peggy Layne, Rob Parrish, Debbie Johnson, Barbara Paulk. The organization sponsored many activities including the annual Talent Show, Sadie Hawkins’ Day and Dance, and Student-Teacher Day. They also published the Tiger's Growl and basketball programs. The main activity of the group was the beautification of the area between the gym and library. The outstanding feature of this area is a fountain (top right) which the members constructed themselves. The members worked hard, leveling ground and planting shrubbery. Ten members, representing the local chapter, attended the State Convention in Sarasota, (middle right) These members returned home with a service plaque awarded for the entire club's work in school and community life. The officers (bottom right) led the group in a very successful year. 59 President: Roger King Vice President: Jan Tyler Secretary: Jacque Van Lierop Cat ion aI Junior MEMBERS: Steve Arrant, Dorcas Bontrager, Pam Bridges, Mike Bustin, Marcus Byler, Milton Cumbie, Bruce Davis, Paul DeMersseman, Sharon Detweiler, Gail Fleming, Bill Gaskin, John Gerber, Howell Goodman, Janice Hand, Roberta Hires, Edwinna Holley, Elsie Holley, Roger King, Ricky McFarland, Ivan Miller, Rudy Mitchell, Angela Morris, Karen Myers, Vicki Nichols, Verena Nix, Lisa Peacock, Pam Pippen, Mary Jane Porter, Connie Price, David Price, Randy Reese, Kathy Smith, Debbie Stokes, Terri Travis, Jan Tyler, Jacque Van Lierop, Glenda Webb, Sue Weed, Nancy White, John Mark Yoder, Charlotte Yon, Janice Yon. There are forty-five members in the Blountstown Chapter of the Junior Honor Society, who represent the 7th, 8th, and 9th grades. Members of the Junior Honor Society play an important part in the betterment of our school. This year the Junior Honor Society sponsored a Teacher Appreciation Day, giving each teacher a gift of flowers (bottom left). The members held a formal initiation (top left) and inducted fifteen new members. The initiation was followed by a reception in the cottage for the faculty, old members, and new members and their parents (top right). The Junior Honor Society also held a bake sale to earn money for their gift to the school (bottom right). Many of the members baby sit for children while their parents attended P. T. A. meetings in the lunch room. The Junior Honor Society sponsored an Easter basket to give to a needy family during Easter and also sent Christmas cards to the teachers during Christmas. At our first class we discovered that we didn't have one experienced person on our staff. Even our sponsor, Miss Bernard, was new at this game. Well you can imagine our plignt. We started to work though. There were a lot of obstacles and a lot of arguments. We worked hard. We learned to work together; and we had some pretty good times. Now, at the end of school with most of our 1967 yearbook behind us, we feel that we’ve accomplished something . We hope that you are just as proud of the Sabertooth as we are!
