Moody Eldridge has served as super- vising principal of the Blountstown Pub- lic School. Mr. Eldridge is a graduate of the University of Floridag he received his master's degree from the George Pea- body College for Teachers. U16 Hlaunfsfowu Pubic Blountstown High Schoo1's Student Council had a heavy schedule to follow during the past school year. ln June of 1958 Tommy McClellan and John Morgan Davis were among the nineteen Florida delegates attend- ing the National Association of Student Councils at Ferguson, Missouri. In the fall, several students went to Tallahassee to the District Convention. Jerry McClellan, Charles Bowman, Sandra Halley, and Mrs. Geraldine Adams, chaperon, went on this trip. This year, for the first time, the local school was invited to send two delegates to the Southern Association of Student Councils Convention at Jacksonville, Florida. Pat Pelt, Cecilia Clements, and Miss Martha Blackmon at- tended this convention. This spring the state officers met with Dr. Victor B. Johnson at West Palm Beach, Florida, to plan in detail the State Convention. Fifteen new members were initiated. Following the initiation a tea was given by the members in honor of the ini- tiates, their parents, and members of the faculty. ln co-operation with the Student Council, the Honor Society sponsored special assemblies at the end of each six weeks at which students on A and B Honor Rolls were recognized and given ribbons. Some of the Honor Society's projects this year were: sponsoring T. B. , Polio, and Cancer drives, collecting toys for needy children at Christmas, participating in Student-Teacher Day, and being in charge of the hall bul- letin board. Our main money-making projects were the talent show and concessions at a football game. Blountstown participated in two District Meetings - held in Panama City and Pensacola, respectively. The local chapter was Vice President of District I. On April 30, May 1 and 2, the Honor Society participated in the State Convention which was held in Daytona Beach. The purpose of this organization is to render service to the school and community. For president this year the N.J.H.S. had Shelton Registerg vice president, Jerry McClellan: secretary, Judy Royerg and treasurer, Rhoda Myers. New members were inducted on March 4, 1959. Throughout the school year, the N.J.H.S. participated in various activities. One of these was the distribution of Christmas and Easter baskets to needy families. Each member of the Honor Society contributed an article of food or some money to the baskets. Christmas and Get-Well cards were also sent to teachers and parents ofthe members. Another activity was Teacher Appreciation Week. In connection with this, the Society had the bulletin board for the week. One day was set aside for showing appreciation to the teachers by bringing flowers or plants and small gifts. Each member selected one member to appreciate, Hand-painted wooden signs were placed over the room doors, giving the room numbers for the convenience of students, teachers, and visitors. The society conducted an orientation assembly near the end of the school year. Speeches were given by members of the organization to introduce the sixth graders to high school life. A. started the year's work last summer with an officers' planning conference at Lake Mystic. The officers decided on the four projects for this year - selling pennants, selling aprons, serving a covered-dish supper, and redecorating the cottage bedroom. The organization carried out all of these projects successfully. Also during the summer Mrs. Evelyne Gaskin, Dona Leonard, Lynda Weand, and Cecilia Clements went to the District Pre-Planning Conference in Shalimar. At the district meeting in November, Lynda Weand was defeated for State Vice President of Projects. Frances Price, Norma Savell, Johnnie Clemmons, Dorothy Williamson, and Mary A. These girls with their escorts were guests of honor at the annual Alumni Banquet on Thursday, October 9. Throughout Friday morning many students were engaged in the making of floats which, at one o'clock, were judged in two different categories-- beauty and originality. Ribbons were given to the first, second, and third place winners in both divisions. At one o'clock the parade left from the north side of the campus, marched through the business district, and re- turned to the school for dismissal. The court was presented to the Home coming fans during the afternoon parade and during half-time at the night foot- ball game with Altha's Wildcats, Heuer Kell Assemblies A special assembly was held at the end of each six weeks to recognize the students making the A and B Honor Rolls. These assemblies were co- sponsored by the National Honor Society and the student Council. The students making the B Honor Roll received red ribbons and the A Honor Roll students received blue ribbons. Guests of the club included players, managers, coaches, cheerleaders, parents of players and high school faculty members. The banquet climaxed a top-notch season for which the team was awarded Conference trophies by the Pensacola News-Journal and the Florida Times- Union. Student- Zfeaclzer Day Student-Teacher Day, a joint project of the Nation al Honor Society and the Future Teachers of America, is one day of each year that selected students choose to reverse the teacher-student relationship.
