Energy Source Scranton Commons When finances are dwindling and the stom- ach ' s grumblings are becoming deafening, where does the BSC student turn? The Com- mons. Most days everyone can find something to suit their taste, be it soup, salad, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, the ever popular oreo cookie ice cream, or the dreaded recur- ring roast beef. In spite of long lines, crowded tables, and the fickle computer system, the Commons seems to be a favorite spot for socializing and relaxing with friends after a long day of classes. Music from WBSC or a Philly station provides a relaxing backdrop to the horror sto- ries of the day, while at breakfast it serves to wake those students devoted enough to stum ble in before their 8 a.m. classes. The food service, Servomation, does try to make cafeteria dining a pleasant experience. Theme meals such as Fast Food night, a cand- lelit Pasta night, or the Thanksgiving family style dinner featuring table service are a wel- come change from the ordinary. Thanks to Tony the Baker ' , desserts have proven to be the most enticing portion of the meal. But no matter how far from home cooking the food may be — at least they don ' t make you wash the dishes; but, then again, maybe you could get the peanut butter out of those bowls. 26

Playpen Recreation Everyone needs to set the books down, get outside and enjoy the fresh air — and BSC students are no exception! In fact, Bloom has a wide variety of activities begging a student to blow-off an hour or two. As spring rolls around, more students can be found enjoying the wide open spaces rather than the musty halls of Andruss. Most guys can be found on the foot- ball fields between North and Columbia or Montour and Schuylkill. If volleyball or basket- ball is the sport, then the recreation area be- tween Navy and Ben Franklin is the place. Frisbee flyers abound filling any available nar- row tract of land. And, of course, there are intramurals ranging from softball to street hockey, for those who prefer the expertise of a referee. 27
