The foreign language courses available at BHS provided challenge and excitement for interested students. The four lan- guages offered were French, German, Lat- in, and Spanish. The students were intro- duced to the basic communication skills and culture of the language. The higher level courses worked toward developement of reading comprehension and fluency. Some students were able to visit the coun- tries and experience the different customs and traditions first hand. This proved to be the best test of their skills in the language. For any student, the study of a foreign lan- guage gave them a better understanding of a culture in a different part of the globe. HO E ECGNOMICS ADD The home economics department staff is Mrs. Washnok, Mrs. Gordon, Mrs. Fry. ln the home economics department, classes were available in basic foods, basic clothing, heritage crafts, foods for mo- derns, clothing for moderns, the young child, advanced foods, advanced clothing, independent living parenting, and family living and marriage. The students that participated in these classes found the pa- tient assistance of Mrs. Fry, Mrs. Gordon, and Mrs. Washnok extremely helpful. These courses prepared students for in- dependent life. Many took advantage of the vast opportunities provided. They real- ized that basic knowledge in the areas of cooking and sewing would add the spice and style their lives lacked. In other courses helpful pointers for becoming a re- sponsible spouse and parent were dis- cussed. Through the experiences available, many students emerged better prepared for the future. .
