Did all those mind-boggling story prob- lems and puzzling geometric figures con- fuse you? Have no fear, the BHS math- ematics department was here! Deciding which course to take was the student's choice. A student could choose anything from Math I and geometry to micro-com- puter math and calculus. No math class 'H was simple, but the BHS staff made it less complicated for everyone. The math de- , partment consisted of eight hard-working teachers, including one new staff member. lt was Mrs. Gordan's first year to teach at BHS. During the year she taught Math I, geometry. and general math. at Front Row: Mrs. Gordan, Miss Prefer. Second Row: Miss Mulligan, Mrs. Dunn, Third Row: Mr. Boalz. Mrs Powell, Miss Ward. Mr. Byers. Mr. Hostettler. Mr. Hostettler skims through class list ln every good high school, counselors must have a friendly disposition and the BHS counseling staff was no exception again this year. They were willing to help students no matter what problem, big or small, from scheduling classes to discuss- ing students' futures and problems. The counselors also worked diligently in the second year of the career guidance center. These friendly counselors were, of course. Stephanie Ireland speaks up in class, Mrs. Smith begins further explanation of Americas early literary traditions. American literature keeps students interested. Miss Coffman shares a story. The English department, again this year, offered a wide variety of courses. One major change in the English program was that juniors were required to enroll in an American literature class. Mr. De- Jaeger led a staff of thirteen teachers who taught twenty-nine different courses. These courses ranged from introduction to world literature and communication skills to drama and masterpieces of British lit- erature. Students not only worked on im- proving their grammar, spelling, and vo- cabulary, but they also gave impromptu speeches, read short stories, and studied legendary tales.
