Nancy Wallace, Peggy Rust seated, Barbara Washburn, and Martha Griffin had earned Thespian standing by the middle of the year as a result of their extensive participation in dramatics. Re-organized after a decade's absence from the scene, Future Nurses club was activated with the idea that uthrough discussion, personal con- ferences, and field trips students who planned to make nursing their profession might be better informed. The girls toured local hospitals, visited Chicago Vifest Side Medical Center, heard Miss Emily Carrdow of the University of Illinois School of Nursing, learned about scholarships from Williaiii E. Skadden of the Illinois Depart- ment of Welfare, and received immeasurable help from their adviser, Mrs. Ruth Barford. Hoping to develop a better understanding and appreciation of speech, Forensic club heard two college student programs, gave two assemblies, and attended a speech festival at Carbondale. An Illinois Wesleyan University panel ap- peared before the club in a program of oral interpretation before speakers from Illinois State Normal University demonstrated monologue, play reading, and poetry reading. The group explained the function of their club in one as- sembly and then provided an assembly com- memorating the birthday of Abraham Lincoln. Office Occupations club and Future Distribu- tors of America, organized of students in two of the work programs in the school, combined tal- Organizations Developed Appreciation, Enioyment Tironian Circle tries to promote interest in business, acquaint members with modern business procedures, and en- courage a closer relationship among business students and teachers, It is one ofthe largest organizations in the school. The club initiated 35 newcomers prior to a chili supper in November. 24
