BACK IN THE SWING OF THINGS On Sepfember II fhe day opened wifh an assembly on class elecfion. The mefhods and procedures were carefully ex- plained. The Sophomores, lafer on in fhe day, were very busy faking science fesfs issued by fhe Universify of Illinois. Thursday morning, sfudenfs filed info fhe auditorium all morning fo have fheir picfures faken for fheir Acfivify Tickefs. The idea of acfivify cards wifh individual picfures was new fhis year. There was a consfanf mumble in fhe auditorium abouf fhe new school year, new feach- ers, and fhe effecf 'Ihe camera would have on cerfain peoples' faces. Thursday and Friday found fhe feachers and sfudenfs in a furmoil over fhe mixup of pro- gram changing. There was a look of hopelessness and con- fusion on everyone's face. In 'lime fhey all found fheir righf- ful places. ln fhe opening filf of fhe I95I foofball season, Easf Mo- line's hard hiffing eleven ouf- played fhe Purple Raiders in fhe lasf fwo minufes fo nef a 6-0 decision af Fred Carlfon Field. ll Bottoms up Locked Ou!! The Seniors, being firsf, were followed by Juniors, and finally by fhe firsf incoming Sopho- more class. Since 'ihe various Junior High Schools in Bloom- inglon -look our Freshmen lasi' year 'lhe presenf Sophomores had ihe honor of being +he firsi incoming Sophomore Class, and lhe Juniors were disiinguished by being 'lhe lasl' Freshman Class at BHS. Sfudenis found four new names added io fhe bullefin boards. They are: Mrs. Claus, Family Living: Miss Hansen, Shorlhandg Mr. O'Connor, Spe- cial Educafion: and a new gym inslrucfor, Miss Alderson. This year, since we had 'iwo gym insfruciors, Sophomore girls iook gym every day of 'ihe week: Juniors ihree days, and Seniors fwo days. The boys were required by law 'lo iake gym every day. lnsiead of aciivify books, each sfudenl' receives an iden- fificafion card wifh his class and piclure on ii. Our captain Hup-2-3-4 Hang on! Got himl Pile up! Yell, Joan, yell! Capfain Bob Scoff and his feam-mafes played heads-up ball during fhe firsf 'lhree peri- ods buf losf fheir supremacy in fhe lasf sfanza. The feam's morale was high and fhe boys showed a lof of fighfing spirif. Monday, fhe P.T.A. began ifs year by having a pofluclc supper in fhe cafeferia. Dr. Chris De- Young, Professor of Educafion af l.S.N.U., spoke on lndia To- day. During homeroom Tuesday and Wednesday, Seniors and Juniors gafhered in fhe audi- forium for presenfafion of can- diclafes for class officers. Affer each was infroduced, his man- ager gave a campaign speech on fhe merifs of his canclidafe. Wednesday, firsf hour, fhe Sfudenf Council mef and offi- cially opened fhe school year. The Council announced fhe Sophomore homeroom repre- senfafives. Many ofher clubs, such as fhe Swim Club, Library Club, Shorf Sfory Club, Forensic Club, and F.T.A., were hav- ing 'lheir organizafion meefings.
