Superfntemteut of Schools George N, Wells, the Superintendent of Schools, was born in Royalton, Illinois, where he attended grade school. He completed his secondary education at University High School at Carbondale. Having re- ceived his diploma Irom Southern Illinois State Normal, he secured his BA., Ph.D., and M.A. degrees, along with honors in the field of education, from the Uni- versity of Chicago. Mr. Wells has proven a successful executive in his six years in Bloomington. We are proud to have him as head ot the Public School System. K' . Director of Gufctance Miss Emeline Kollman was born in Washington, Illinois. Her home is now in Paxton, where she attended and graduated from the Paxton Community High School. She then attended I. S. N. U. where she re- ceived her bachelors degree. After obtaining her masters degree at Columbia University, she began teaching English at Bloomington High School. Having completed her graduate work in vocational guidance, she was assigned to that post here three years ago and since that time she has been doing a iob worthy of our highest praises. if Illlllllllll lllllllllllll Principal Mr. P. C. Kurtz was born in Bloomington where he attended both grade and high school. ln l9l3 he graduated with the double honor of being both senior class president and valedictorian. Four years later, after receiving his bachelor's degree at Illinois Wes- leyan University, he began teaching at Bloomington High School. In the tall of l9l7, Mr. Kurtz resigned to enlist in the Navy, resuming his iob of teaching atter World War I, He received his masters degree from the University of Chicago in I937 and was elected to the honorary educational fraternity, Phi Kappa Delta. Assistant Principal Mr. Charles L. Cox, born in Eldon, Iowa, received his grade school and high school education in Iowa and in Bloomington, Illinois. His tirst five years of teaching were spent at Leroy and Pekin. During his summer vacations, he studied to receive his M.S. degree at the University of Illinois. After teaching in Bloom- ington for one year, he entered the United States Navy tor tour years. Mr. Cox resumed his teaching in the Industrial Arts Department and retired to inactive duty as a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy. ln September of l948, he began his duties as Administrative Assistant,
