kwa 55010 Our life at Bloomfield High School Class of 56 began back in September 1957 when we entered our freshman year Now in 1956 we are bringing our days at BHS to a close As we set out on our separate paths we will take these memories of our high school days with us 1957 FRESHMAN 1955 Fifty two freshmen walked mto the annex of Bloomfield High School in September ready and eager to begin their years at BHS At our nrst class meeting under the supervision of Mrs Dorothy Farrell and Mrs Mildred Bashour we elected our class officers Constantine Caldeira president Michael Vtgnone vice president Louis Lupo secretary and ames Kidd treasurer Representing our class in Student Council were james Daly Edith Gutlmartrn Harvey Sinclair and Phtlomena Vrgnone In October our ctvics classes traveled by bus to the United Nations building in New York Crty where the group split up each seeing a different council in session In December we were sorry to say good bye to Principal George R Perry who left Bloomfield for a position as principal at Bristol High School The big social event of our freshman year was the dance April Showers For weeks ahead we all worked on committees preparing for it As we ended our freshman year our thoughts turned to the next September when we would be sophomores 1953 SOPHOMORE 1954 Our first business as sophomores was the electron of our class officers Louis Lupo became president assisted by Bonna Walbam vice president Philomena Vtgnone secretary and Richard Fenton treasurer Constantine Caldeira joan S1net1 Patrick Flynn and Philomena Vtgnone voiced their opinions loud and clear in the Student Council Upon the suggestion of Mr Freeman Pearlmutter and Mrs Marguerite Mickelson we named our dance the Stag Bait Quiz Hop Its many original ideas made tt a great success Emcee Constantine Caldetra put the contestants through many hilarious antics to the delight of the audience Five sophomore girls became members of the unior Varsity Cheertng Squad Beverly Barnard Diana Grulfre Grace Pitt Dolores Urgo and Ina Westdal en thustastically cheered our boys on to many victories On May 14 1954 Robert Urban brought credit to the sophomore class when he played a leading role in the operetta HMS Ptnafore presented by the school music department under the direction of Mrs oltdon We were measured for our class rings thus being reminded that we were almost juniors Now we were reaching for the thrrd step on the way to graduation 1954 JUNIOR 1955 The first semester of our yunror year opened with the electron of ofhcers Richard Fenton president james Daly vice president oan Srnett secretary and Elaine Christ treasurer Those chosen to carry our ideas to the Student Council were Robert Beau doin janet Beh Constantine Caldetra Richard Fenton Betty Weaver and Diana Gruffre who was later replaced by Beatrice Benavides On October 8 1954 our class rings finally arrived Fifty proud yuniors walked through the halls that day The first dance of our yunror year was held on October 22 With the help of Mrs Marguerite Mickelson and Mr Saul Hoffman we put on a very enjoyable dance Committee chairmen were Drana Gtuffre decorations Gale Atkinson and Wilma Hawkes refreshments and Ellen Fazztno publicity The affair was called She Harlequin Platter Party and set the precedent of playing records at informal ances janet Beh Betty Goetyen Barbara Goodell Louise Gowen Elaine Radtn joan Stnett and Betty Weaver became members of the National Honor Society in a formal ceremony in February 26 O . . , . 1 1 4 1 ' ' 1 1 ' 1 , 4 . , . . , 4 . , , 1 - , , , J 1 ' 1 1 1 ' 1 1 - . , r 4 . - - tt - 1, , . 1 1 1 ' 1 1 1 1 ' 1 1 1 . . .
