NM 2 i .A , ' ,X 5251 Responding to an article in LIFE magazine about the deprivation, famine, and disease prevalent at the Las Dhure, Somalia refugee camp, the crew of USS Blakely collected S3800 for the purchase of food for the nearly 80,000 refugees in the camp. The supplies consisted of some 2750 pounds of flour, 1500 pounds of rice, and 67 cases of evaporated milk. They were bought in Bahrain and turned over in Djibouti to Richard Grove-Hills of the Save the Children Fund, who accepted the food on behalf of World Vision, the organization operating the camp. The U.S. Ambassador to Djibouti, the Hon. Jerald M. North was on hand and expressed his appreciation on behalf of the Dept. of State.
