A FASTER TEMPO FOR BLAKE SPIRIT More than any other year, school spirit was evident as students supported the athletic teams, Junior Weekend, and the first-ever SnoDaze. The new Hockey Pep club, under copresidents Ed Cohen and Mike Krelitz, helped generate enthusiasm for the winter sports teams with bizarre cheers and whatever else it took to get the crowds involved. School colors were displayed in clothes and banners, while the cheerleaders were accompanied by Bill Watson on the trombone. Towards the ends of games, students banged on pots and blew on horns, while familiar chants of Check out the scoreboard! Check out the scoreboard! and NaNANaNA, NaNaNaNa. Hey Hey Hey, GOODBYE” filled the air. On February 9, after much planning by co-chairs Brian Lucas and Beth Hodder, Junior Weekend took place at Camp Iduhapi. Saturday morning was spent sledding, while the first part of the afternoon was used for diads between the students. The day ended with cabin skits and a few charades, which were met enthusiastically by the class. After a class meeting the next day, there was an hour of aerobics to wake up those students who had stayed up late while on shaving cream raids, and the weekend was closed with a talk on friendship, given by Mark Wickstrom. This year’s SnoDaze helped to break up the monotony of the winter and allowed students to relax a little from school pressures. Organized by Amy Segal and faculty advisor Bill Marton, SnoDaze began with the National Art Honor Society on Friday, January 15, and finished with a second dance a week later. Attendance at the week's athletic events was encouraged, much like Homecoming. A pep rally was held early in the afternoon on Friday, and the afternoon was devoted to special activities such as skating, broomball, sledding, and ice sculpture. Even through the dead of winter, the students kept their spirits high an participated enthusiastically in the numerous school events to make this year one to remember. 22‘Changes
