A DECADE OF DOMINANCE The kids are basically the same now, recalls Drill-Mellum. You had students getting in trouble, going to treatment, just like you've got today. I do remember that for the big dances, we would get a big table at a restaurant and about twenty couples would go out together . In the Senior Room, which occupied what is now Chuck Ritchie's room, the multi-purpose room, and a conference room, senior kissing elves were frequently seen delivering monster kisses throughout the year. Among the graduates from The Blake Schools' first coed class were Drill-Mellum, Craig Shaver, who is a candidate for the 1985 state senate race, and the Suburb's singer keyboardist Chan Pohling. fEN YEAR ANNIVERSARY . The 1984-85 school year denotes the tenth year of existence of The Blake Schools. And though Blake has not always been completely dominant”, for a school its size, Blake has consistently put forth a good showing in all its endeavors. The Blake faculty, athletic department, organizations, and student body are among the best anywhere. Ten years ago, the faculty included many members who are still present today. The English department has six veterans : Marlys Johnson, Lee Woolman, Jane Rice, Will Fisher, Daryl McAnnany, and John Hatch. Barbara Reynolds, Nellie Blackburn, Russell Hilliard, Janine Nelson, Heinz Otto, and Chuch Ritchie have taught at Blake since the merger. Four original science teachers remain, as Dan Danielson is now the Upper School Director, and Greg Bartell, Ted Hale, Judy Sherman, and Clint Knutson still teach in the science department. Four social studies teachers are also still at Blake: Kay Solon, Bill Marton, Jan Woolman, and Rod Anderson. Paul Vetscher, Bruce Archibald, and Joanne Robson have each been at Blake for at least ten years. Bob Teslow and Gin-ny Claessens are the lone remaining members of the 1974-75 Fine Arts Department. 18 • Ten Year Anniversary

fEN YEAR ANNIVERSARY . . . The organizations of the Upper School have varied in the ten years since Blake's inception. VV H A T. radio, a student run radio station has terminated. The same fate has come to Shelf, a club which practiced the reading of Mad magazine and Peanuts comics during students' free hours. Blake no longer has a Chess Club, which according to 1975 graduate Kic Drill-Mellum, was a group of so-called 'partiers. Junior Concessions was then considered a club, and Medical Biology was not yet a class. Both were featured as organizations in the 1974-75 yearbook, Bravura. Upper School students of this year, Blake's ten-year anniversary may participate in the Minneapolis Cricket Club, The Fun Club, the Outing Club, the Library Club, and the P E P. Club, to name a few of the organizations which had not found their beginnings by the Blake Schools' first year. 20 • Ten Year Anniversary
