Each pitch, or student, alone is unique, yet can combine with other pitches to form harmonious chords and melodies. But notes aren't limited to involvement in one single song. They make their own choices about when and where they want to be involved in the Key of Blake. The Key of Blake allows its notes the opportunity to search for their perfect chord. During this search, notes often find themselves in harsh sounding chords. Vet the Key of Blake is lenient enough to allow for mistakes, knowing that eventually, each note will find its place. Songs in the Key of Blake are infinite in number, ranging from classical to pop, from jazz to new wave. This diverse key offers every note at least one song into which it can fit. The Key of Blake boasts a unique and unlimited repetoire, unknown to any other musical key. A 6 Opening 3 CELEBRATE GOOD COME ON! Vet students' involvement in other non-academic activities contributes to the success of The Blake Schools. Students can set competitive goals and achieve them in after school sports. Charlie Sparky” Seel has been with The Blake Schools since 1968 as a devoted teacher, administrator, college counselor, and coach. Affectionately known as Sparky,” named after Sparky the Seal” at the Como Zoo, his true concern for the Blake community is felt in his enthusiasm for every job he tackles. Mr. Seel has coached many successful soccer teams. His players describe their coach's character and style as a combination of positive encouragement, high expectations, a lot of hard work, and always good for a laugh.” Even with his busy schedule, Mr. Seel is always generous with his time whether it is helping a student with a schedule change or giving special attention to a senior going through the college selection process. Mr. Seel's concern for the Blake community reaches far beyond his day-to-day responsibilities. He seems to care and make an effort to know every student. The frequently heard Sparky” greeting, How's it goin' today, gang?” helps to brighten up those not-so-great days every Blake student experiences from time to time. Mr. Seel is always quick to encourage a dream, console a failure, and congratulate a success. After every soccer game, Mr. Seel awards the 110% Award to a deserving player. This award is given to that player wno has given 110% of himself for the team. This team must be built on skill, but also on the determination, desire, and dedication to be a winner.” The 1985 yearbook staff finds it especially fitting to present the 110% Award to Mr. Seel for his undying enthusiasm and his tremendous devotion to The Blake Schools. We thank you Sparky,” for adding one more special Song in the Key of Blake. Dedication • 7 HOMECOMING 1984.. . 8 • Homecoming BEARRICADE 'EM! 5 1. Matt Segal, sophomore, drums the Blake Bear Beat. 2. Students, faculty, and alumni joined together to show their school spirit by either dressing up for the occasion or cheering on their favorite sports. The traditional bonfire was held on Wednesday night. The skits generated enthusiasm for the upcoming soccer and football games. Homecoming royalty, announced at the bonfire, included freshman attendants Shandele Gumucio and |ohn Ebel, sophomore attendants Georgie Slade and D. lackson, junior attendants Dori Schlampp and Ted Anderson, and senior attendants Ellen Mahoney and Steve Sell. King Scott Adams judged the hairy leg contest, while Queen Laura Gabbert chose the longest beard. Volleyball, tennis, boys' soccer, and football continued Blake's decade of dominance while the cheerleaders kept the spirit high with rousing pepfests and cheers. The grand finale of the week was the dance on Friday night. The Urban Guerillas played to one of the biggest groups ever, bringing the year's Homecoming festivities to a close. 2 I Luscious senior men flaunt their shapely tegs 2. On Saturday morning, September eighth, 86 sleepy-eyed seniors trudged aboard two buses. Expectations were high, everyone anticipating an incredible three day, two night weekend of fun and friendship. The ride to Camp Warren, in Eveleth. Minnesota breezed by, thanks to good conversation, hot poker games, and a fantastic pitstop at Toby's Diner in Hinckley. During the weekend, each senior had two dyads” so that he or she could get to know two people with whom he or she had never really talked. Class president Mike Shogren's pairings had the right chemistry, and everyone came back smiling. The Senior Weekend committee organized activities such as a Saturday night service, a great campfire, hilarious skits, and an incredible afternoon of Olympic events, all of which provided for unforgettable laughs and newly found unity among friends. The class even got in to some good down home fun with a square dance, hosted by a professional caller. Most importantly, the class as a whole, and in smaller discussion groups discussed its goals and expectations for the year. Talks by president John Stander, and Upper School Director Dan Danielson also stimulated discussion about change and how to deal with it. Seniors helped in a ser- vice project for the camp The class took time to help clear brush and trees for the Blake Cross Country Trail at Camp Warren. Of course, the weekend was not all serious. During their spare time, seniors swam (borped), sailed, canoed, and even played mumblypeg. an ancient game introduced by Mr. Knutson. Viscious nocturnal cabin raids with weapons such as shaving cream and honey also were a hit. Summing up the class' feelings. Karin Mesna said, After having renewed old friendships and made new ones, I really feel as if I know the whole class.” Senior Weekend 15 ■iBLLil 3 ADMINISTRATION CHANGES TO A NEW BEAT Although the new members of the administration have only been in their specific positions for a year, their vast experience in education was evident as they forged ahead in many areas, such as numerous policy changes. Dan Danielson has served the Blake Schools for many years as a chemistry teacher and a college advisor. In his new job as the Director of the Upper School, Danielson has drawn upon his close relationships with both faculty and students to bring them even closer together. John Stander, as the new President of the Blake Schools, has been very visible within the Blake community and has succeeded in understanding what Blake Spirit is all about. Other new faces in the main office include Kathy Glaeser, Danielson's personal secretary, Shelley Kleberg and Stephanie Kruger. They have helped tremendously to make the school run more efficiently. Russell Hilliard temporarily gave up some of his Spanish classes in order to fill Marilyn Marn's position in Student Services while she was on maternity leave. 1.) New Administration • 17 fEN YEAR ANNIVERSARY . The 1984-85 school year denotes the tenth year of existence of The Blake Schools. And though Blake has not always been completely dominant”, for a school its size, Blake has consistently put forth a good showing in all its endeavors. The Blake faculty, athletic department, organizations, and student body are among the best anywhere. Ten years ago, the faculty included many members who are still present today. The English department has six veterans : Marlys Johnson, Lee Woolman, Jane Rice, Will Fisher, Daryl McAnnany, and John Hatch. Barbara Reynolds, Nellie Blackburn, Russell Hilliard, Janine Nelson, Heinz Otto, and Chuch Ritchie have taught at Blake since the merger. Four original science teachers remain, as Dan Danielson is now the Upper School Director, and Greg Bartell, Ted Hale, Judy Sherman, and Clint Knutson still teach in the science department. Four social studies teachers are also still at Blake: Kay Solon, Bill Marton, Jan Woolman, and Rod Anderson. Paul Vetscher, Bruce Archibald, and Joanne Robson have each been at Blake for at least ten years. Bob Teslow and Gin-ny Claessens are the lone remaining members of the 1974-75 Fine Arts Department. 18 • Ten Year Anniversary A DECADE OF DOMINANCE The kids are basically the same now, recalls Drill-Mellum. You had students getting in trouble, going to treatment, just like you've got today. I do remember that for the big dances, we would get a big table at a restaurant and about twenty couples would go out together . In the Senior Room, which occupied what is now Chuck Ritchie's room, the multi-purpose room, and a conference room, senior kissing elves were frequently seen delivering monster kisses throughout the year. Among the graduates from The Blake Schools' first coed class were Drill-Mellum, Craig Shaver, who is a candidate for the 1985 state senate race, and the Suburb's singer keyboardist Chan Pohling. Ten Year Anniversary • IQ fEN YEAR ANNIVERSARY . . . The organizations of the Upper School have varied in the ten years since Blake's inception. VV H A T. radio, a student run radio station has terminated. The same fate has come to Shelf, a club which practiced the reading of Mad magazine and Peanuts comics during students' free hours. Blake no longer has a Chess Club, which according to 1975 graduate Kic Drill-Mellum, was a group of so-called 'partiers. Junior Concessions was then considered a club, and Medical Biology was not yet a class. Both were featured as organizations in the 1974-75 yearbook, Bravura. Upper School students of this year, Blake's ten-year anniversary may participate in the Minneapolis Cricket Club, The Fun Club, the Outing Club, the Library Club, and the P E P. Club, to name a few of the organizations which had not found their beginnings by the Blake Schools' first year. 20 • Ten Year Anniversary A DECADE OF DOMINANCE In the past ten years athletics at Blake have changed very little. With the addition of its new wrestling team in 1983, Blake now boasts the same types of number of teams as it did during the 1974-75 school year. During the first year of the merger, Blake athletics upheld their outstanding reputations. The cross country running team took sixth place in the conference. Varsity football grasped fourth place in the Tri -Metro. Third place in the conference went to girls' tennis and boys' soccer. Finally, boys’ swimming came in fourth in state. 1 • Ten Year Anniversary • 21 A FASTER TEMPO FOR BLAKE SPIRIT More than any other year, school spirit was evident as students supported the athletic teams, Junior Weekend, and the first-ever SnoDaze. The new Hockey Pep club, under copresidents Ed Cohen and Mike Krelitz, helped generate enthusiasm for the winter sports teams with bizarre cheers and whatever else it took to get the crowds involved. School colors were displayed in clothes and banners, while the cheerleaders were accompanied by Bill Watson on the trombone. Towards the ends of games, students banged on pots and blew on horns, while familiar chants of Check out the scoreboard! Check out the scoreboard! and NaNANaNA, NaNaNaNa. Hey Hey Hey, GOODBYE” filled the air. On February 9, after much planning by co-chairs Brian Lucas and Beth Hodder, Junior Weekend took place at Camp Iduhapi. Saturday morning was spent sledding, while the first part of the afternoon was used for diads between the students. The day ended with cabin skits and a few charades, which were met enthusiastically by the class. After a class meeting the next day, there was an hour of aerobics to wake up those students who had stayed up late while on shaving cream raids, and the weekend was closed with a talk on friendship, given by Mark Wickstrom. This year’s SnoDaze helped to break up the monotony of the winter and allowed students to relax a little from school pressures. Organized by Amy Segal and faculty advisor Bill Marton, SnoDaze began with the National Art Honor Society on Friday, January 15, and finished with a second dance a week later. Attendance at the week's athletic events was encouraged, much like Homecoming. A pep rally was held early in the afternoon on Friday, and the afternoon was devoted to special activities such as skating, broomball, sledding, and ice sculpture. Even through the dead of winter, the students kept their spirits high an participated enthusiastically in the numerous school events to make this year one to remember. 22‘Changes 3 1 ) luniors enjoy sledding at Camp Iduhapi over Junior Weekend 2.) In the lobby, lunchroom, library or wherever it may be, a Sophomore can always be found intensely studying. Though the workload may become rigorous the Sophomores manage to keep their spirits high. They always can look forward to the freedom of Junior and Senior year. Underclassmen • 39 JUNIORS STRIVE FOR GOALS When Junior year rolls around, the class is faced with enormous responsibilities and challenges. Even though Juniors find themselves with time on their hands, they soon find it can be well spent on activities besides academics. Committee meetings ranging from Prom decorations to Junior weekend plans are always being organized and student run. A sense of responsibility and accomplishment are main goals the class strives for. 'Snow Daze', an original idea of Junior Amy Segal definitely showed the power a student had to organize and plan a successful, fun activity. Junior Concessions, headed by Ed Cohen and Josh Marrow, along with Harold Lieberman and Katie Loken, who took charge of the third floor pop machine, made an amazing amount of money which went towards the Junior - Senior Prom and some to charity. Chairperson, Kathy Everly worked together with Treasurer Adam Frisch and all the Prom committee heads to finance and plan a great 1985 Prom. Despite all the responsibility, the Juniors still found time to establish their place at school. If it's leading a crowd to the Llamma cheer or making their favorite Varsity sport, the luniors' spirit shone through. 40 • Underclassmen 3 1) The junior class works together and sells candy and pop in order to fund the lunior - Senior Prom in the Spring 2) juniors take a break from their full load of classes to unite in the new link 3) With the help of Faculty member Bdl Marton, Amy Segal develops her own idea of Snow Daze into a winter festival for the whole student body 4) Though most people think that juniors don't know how to utilize their free time. Glee Club, Women's Chorus, Concert Choir, All That Jazz, Mixed Company, Blaker's Dozen, and the Jazz Ensemble all performed. However, some of the most memorable parts of the show were the small groups and solos. David Crosby •added culture to the show with a cello solo; Nicole Chapman and Matt Segal performed a contemporary duet; Joelle Purvis and Tawnia Gunderson both performed solos; and Neil Alsip and Daniel Coldner sang a humorous duet. Comedy was also made a part of the show. Adam Frisch and Josh Marrow, along with Arthur Phillips performed a humorous commercial; freshmen Amy Randall and Jon Ebel performed the dialogue Who's On First? ; and Brad Schultze juggled amazingly well. The M.C.'s introduced all of the selections with jokes and dialogues. This year the M.C.'s were seniors David Ogden, Jeff Melin, Mary-Katherine Menikheim, and Andrea Lanoux, all from Concert Choir. 1) Seniors Laura Deikel and Rachel Rainer continue their four year tradition by singing a duet. 2) luniors Lisa Schmoker, Dori Schlampp, and Sara Weinberg, members of the concert choir sing FANTASY. 3) Sophomore Dan GokJner sings a humorous song with great energy. 4) Senior Jeff Melin introduces the next entertaining act. 5) Sophomore Chris and senior Peter Passi display their family talents. 6) Senior Amy Anderson and junior Beth Hodder sing their hearts out in ALL THAT JAZZ 44‘Talent Review MEMBER” DISPLAYS ACTORS' MATURITY When the curtains opened on this year’s fall production, Member of the Wedding, the audience was treated to a first-class performance. From the beginning of the rehearsals, to the final curtain call, this year's cast, crew, and director dedicated themselves to creating one of the most memorable shows in Blake's history. Michelle Conlin, as Frankie Addams, was able to bring out all of the frustrations and energies of an 11 year old girl facing her brother's upcoming wedding. Anne-Marie White played Berenice Sadie Brown with exceptional talent, while third grader Josh Bell gave his all as John Henry West. The supporting cast also performed well, with many newcomers among the seasoned thespians: David Ogden as Jarvis; Anne Sundberg as Janice; Seth Rierson as Mr. Addams; Juliet Nelson as Mrs. West; Kathy Everly as Helen Fletcher; Rachel Ratner as Doris; Caprice Leudke as Phyllis; Rachel Blake as Christine; Nicole Chapman as Sis Laura; Chris Ross as T. T. Williams; Jay Pearson as Honey Camden Brown; and Dale Warner as Barney MacKean. Under the superb direction of Jeanne Blake, the technical aspects were flawless. Rick Polenek created the set and designed the lights, which were run by the irreplaceable student director, Alan Lonstein. With the guidance of Mark Peterson, musical director, David Ogden and Kathy Everly organized the music for the show. Finally, numerous students gave their time by working on the set, as well as by helping with publicity. In January, Member of the Wedding was entered in the One-Act play competition, held at Delano High School. Even with a generally cut down cast and script, the play still managed to place a respectable third. One major change was the addition of Arthur Philips, as an older, more mature John Henry. 1.) Seniors Anne Marie White and Michelle Conlin portray Bernice and Franklin in member of the wedding. 2.) Sophomore lay Pearson (Honey) and senior Chris Ross (T.T.) pay Bernice a visit 3.) junior Anne Sundberg (Janice) and senior David Ogden (lavis) eagerly wait on their wedding day 4.) And I know he watches me. Fall Play 47 MADRIGAL DINNER LORDS AND LADIES CELEBRATE HOLIDAYS In lieu of Blake's traditional winter concert, the music department put on the first ever Madrigal Dinner. Weeks of preparation and rehearsals led to the December 8 and 9 festivities. Under the leadership of Ginny Claussens, each singing group performed its own selections, with the three groups: Women's Chorus, Men's Glee Club, and Concert Choir combining for a , truly grand finale. The Renaissance spirit was carried through not only by music from that period, but also by timely costumes, lighthearted dialogue, and an ambiance created by banners, tapestries, and greens dispersed throughout the building. Banners led the guests into the Great Hall where they were serenaded by Blake's small singing ensembles, including Mixed Company, All That Jazz, and Blaker's Dozen. Guests drank the traditional wasail and nibbled on hors d'oeurves of fruit and cheese. The kitchen sacrificed many long hours in preparing the feast, an authentic English dinner which included roast beef as well as plum pudding. Organizer for this gala was Gretchen Crosby, who did everything from planning the menu to helping with reservations. Her efforts enhanced the total effect of the evening. With the Madrigal Dinner, the music department managed to mix traditional music, food, and decor in creating a memorable evening for all. 1) Ginny Claessens directs Women s Chorus in a light Renaissance piece. 2) A lord and a lady serve the guests wasari. 3) The court s jugglers risk their lives with flamed torches. 4) Upper School Director Dan Danielson and Dan Goldner, sophomore play a tune on their recorders before dinner is served 5) The king s court toasts its guests 6) Ed Cohen, Kathy Everly, Jojo Mackay. and Dale Warner juniors, join the festivities of the evening 3 48 • Madrigal Dinner Madrigal Dinner • 49 Many of the clubs and organizations have sponsored various activities and events to bring money into the school. One of the most popular of these events comes around the holiday season. Kissing Elves has been sponsored by the Minneapolis Cricket Club for many years. Each December students enjoy sending and receiving elf cards. M.C.C. begins selling ‘ cards around the first week of December. Students buy cards write their messages and choose the elves that they would like to deliver their cards. One week before vacation, M.C.C. sorts and distributes the cards to the various elves. Then the fun begins. It is not uncommon the following five days to be approached by various elves and to receive kisses on route to class. The goal of this year's Forum, decided upon at Mrs. Bell's house in August, was to increase student participation in important decisions affecting the entire Upper School community. This unique student faculty body pursued its goal in many areas and most attempts to change the decisionmaking were successful. The institution of an improved caucus system and the initiation of townhall-style Open Forum meetings help to facilitate a heightened student and faculty awareness of vital policy issues Another example of more student involvement has the inclusion of the three senior Forum members on self-evaluation determinence committees and the further addition of student representatives on all self-evaluation committees during the year. Finally, Forum and its Constitution Committee developed a formal process for student input which was approved by the faculty and administration as a means of informing students of policy changes and allowing them to voice their opinions on relevant issues. This Forum was not afraid to delve into unexplored or sensitive areas in the school. Tardiness, the new athletic policy, student volunteerism and responsibility for school property were all dealt with fairly and extensively by Forum. Led by faculty co-chairperson Marlys Johnson and student co-chairperson David Goldberg, the 1984-1985 Forum broke new ground in establishing itself as a meeting place for ideas and as a strong voice for the student body. 1) . EIGHT DAYS A WEEK The goal of the 1984-1985 Spectrum staff was to produce an informative, attractive and easy to read newspaper while making efficient use of scheduled meeting time. An increased amount of concentration and hard work by all of the staff members was the key to meeting this goal and drecreasing the amount of time needed for meetings. Under the leadership of faculty advisor, Darrel McAnnany, editor in chief Chris Allen, and associate editor David Goldberg, the staff started the year by evaluating the amount of time needed for a meeting. It was decided that 5 to 6 hour meetings were not only time consuming but also non-productive. Therefore, this year's staff tried, and succeeded, to keep all of its meetings within a 3 to 4 hour limit. This allowed staff members to go home sooner, but at the same time it forced them to prepare more thoroughly for each meeting, and then make more efficient use of their time while at the meetings. The members of this year's staff were committed, dedicated, and worked extremely well together to reach all of the strict deadlines. Most of all this year's staff worked with exceptional enthusiasm to produce a top quality paper. 1.) Co-editors in chief, Libby Carrier and Laura Cabbert led the staff in the planning and production of this year's edition of Reflections. The staff worked at creating Songs in the Key of Blake to represent a true picture of the Blake community by carrying the theme thoroughout the entire book. This was done through innovative faculty and organization sections. There was a true concern to produce a professional publication, with dominant pictures in double page spreads, as well as a strict journalistic style in the copy. Its President, Mike Shogren, Vice President, Tom Nelson, and faculty advisor Clint Knudson have sponsored the 3rd annual All-Star Wrestling Extravaganza, and hosted the 3rd annual Movie-Bingo night. Along with the customary ice cream social, they also held the All-School Slo-Pitch Softball Tournament Extraordinaire in the Spring. The Fun Committee events are well attended by Blake's spirited student body because they promote a positive good time and a relaxing break from their busy schedules. They offer a student's viewpoint to the classroom activities and give new insight into the study of theatre. As Michelle Conlin states, This new collaboration is a great way to have a creative outlet during the school day and we learn a lot about ourselves through it. Going to Reflections, Spectrum, and Flash meetings, giving fan support as well as coaching expertise at Blake sporting events, and grading tests and papers are common nightly tasks. Still, with their busy, chaotic schedules, the enthusiasm of the Blake faculty members never diminishes. A Teacher's Day 83 WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS Athletics add a special beat to the songs in the Key of Blake. Whether it be as manager, coach, player, or supporter, virtually everyone at Blake is involved in athletics Best of all, win or lose, everyone is a champion. Students learn how to cooperate on the team level and how to become good sports people, as well as how to perform the technical aspects of a given sport. A team’s record does not matter at Blake, because, judging from the values and skills students gain through sports, Blake is always the champion. THE TRUE DEDICATION OF A BLAKE FAN The Blake sports fan is truly one of a kind. Despite the rigors of a tough academic day and a heavy homework load, in addition to extracurricular activities, the Blake fan can be found at many school sporting events. A typical week might include a trip to Welch Village for a ski meet, a basketball game, a regional hockey game, the conference gymnastics meet, and an enjoyable afternoon watching the men's swimming and diving team. Needless to say, this balance of academics, extracurriculars, and fan support can leave even the most exuberant Blake student exhausted at the end of a long week. 86-BJueFan Blake Fan • 87 GIRLS' SOCCER GIVES IT THEIR BEST SHOT The 1984-'85 girls varsity soccer team had a growing and eventful year Because of the team's difficult competition, everyone made significant improvements. Johnson, who cheered in both high school and in college, helped the squad to be more synchronized in their cheers, and added a new facet to the cheerleaders' performance; pyramids. They presented a complex pyramid to the student body at the Homecoming pepfest, impressing everyone. The cheerleading season provided much spirit for the sports teams, as well as the student body. 1. By mid-September, the hard work in practice was reflected in the team's meet performances. The swimmers and divers displayed a great deal of unity this year and were brought even closer through a number of events. The Eau Clare overnight, many long trips and pigging out with each other, resulted in a special camaraderie among the teammates. The highlights of the season occurred during the regional and state meets. Thirteen swimmers and two divers combined to capture the Region 5 championship. With supreme coaching by Doug Arnold, Randy Mintz, Mary Hartfiel, Fuller Cowles and veteran coach Robert Teslow, the team improved day after day. Although the team was very young, with only four seniors, inexperience did not hold it back. The highlight of the year for the boys' team was a second place finish at .the Welch Village Invitational, the largest high school meet in the nation, with 23 teams. The girls' team made great progress as they advanced to the state meet, after placing second in sectionals, and placed a respectable fifth. With five overnights and a closely knit team, the entire group's unity contributed to the successful year. The team sent junior Adam Frisch, senior Libby Carrier, sophomores Stewart Crosby and Sara Strand to the Individual State Meet. Frisch finished eighth place among fierce competition. Captain Cully Nordby, having had vast experience from earlier years, led the team members through some challenging meets in which they gained experience and personal growth, which will be greatly valued in years to come. Because of the shortgage of coaching, senior Cully Nordby not only acted as captain, but also served as assistant coach. The combination of a young team and insufficient coaching became quite evident as the team did not have a very winning season. The girls' expectations were high with the return of their four top skiers: Tara Gustilo, Amy Anderson. Ann Bokman and Katherine Wittenberg. Though stiff competition in their region gave them a slow' start, the team got on track winning four of their last six meets. Unfortunately. uncooperative weather and injuries to critical team members brought the season to an early end in the regionals. The girls are already looking forward to next year with the hopes of a longer and healthier winter to show off their true talent. The boys also had problems in the shortened season with the team enduring several losses from tough competition. The team's unity remained strong, however, and looking back on the year, the members feel that the experience they gained was both helpful and necessary. Light becomes clouds, in the center is a moon - which has no beam of its own, simply borrowed talents from a star. His darkness - each sparkle, another teardrop falling. This moon was not made for anyone. It is his - all his tears to share. Again he looks to the light - sees his reflection in its sky. And when he shuts his eyes, his face and the moon remain. Your warmth and friendship, your laughter and fun, we'll feel around us, in the glow of the sun. The soft clouds in heaven, will cradle you now, and God's love will keep you, while our heads we bow. We will miss you, sweet lady, but the memories remain, we will ALL always love you, in your joy, and your pain. Your tears are the raindrops, God sends down to earth, they bring forth life's garden, its sadness and mirth. The weeds and the flowers, the love and the pain, they will all intermingle, 'til we meet again. Look down from your windows, in heavens high halls, we'll bask in your sunshine, and hear your soft calls. Someday we'll be laughing, someday we'll be free, some day, up in heaven, Mary Michael and me. —Gai Skramstad 1984 178 • Mary Michael Larsen THANK YOU Sponsors Steve and Barbara Adams Dr. and Mrs. Thomas C. We would not have made it through those endless hours of frustration and chaos without the invaluable help of our staff, which devoted more than just a few Wednesday nights to creating this publication. Your time, efforts, and optimistic attitudes made the 1985 Reflections the best it could be. Our biggest thanks goes to Bruce Archibald. You came in as a rookie, but helped us like an old pro. We really do appreciate your letting us have Saturday meetings, and your sticking around just long enough for us to finish that last layout. Your patience and incredible sense of humor made it a great year. We never could have done it without you. We sincerely hope that you enjoy this year's Reflections.
