9- Swiftness on the Snowy Slopes During the Spring break of l984, stu- dents of Blair took to the slopes of the picturesque mountain area of Creste Butte in Colorado. ln preparation for this exciting annual trip, the large and eager group of eighty students had helpful dem- onstrations on the use and care of equip- ment and ski safety. Ski films were an en- joyable part of the program. ln November, the club went to see Warren Miller's fea- ture length film, "Ski Time" at the Shrine Auditorium, for the benefit of the Handi- capped Skiers Foundation of California. The ski trip itself was very successful. Everyone went skiing during the day, re- turning in the afternoon or early evening to their comfortable and semi luxurious suites. Six to eight people accommodated a suite and shared a common cooking fa- cility. The trip was aimed at providing an op- portunity for students to enjoy the com- pany of other students through the sport of skiing. The trip was not only exciting and ex- hilarating, but it was also a great way of keeping fit, a much needed benefit during a week which centered around eating as much as skiing. Pressing for details Under the direction of Ms. Virginia Ber- retini, the newspaper staff provided Blair with one of its most informative sources of student life on the Blair Campus, the North Star. The newspaper provided Blair students with up-to-date school issues, student life, sports, editorials, movie reviews, con- tests, puzzles and even a personal advice column. In addition to writing responsibilities, fundraisers, such as candy and cookie sales, proved to be a necessity in support- ing the newspaper. Some returning writers took supple- mentary courses to enhance their journal- ism, and indeed the results were favor- able. ln addition to the regular issues, a liter- ary magazine was compiled under the di- rection of Ms. Berretini and co-editor Lena Masri. The journal included articles and stories written by various contribut- ing student writers. The North Star staff wrote off yet an- other successful year. 74 North Star Row I: Lena Masri, Hassan Carroll, Sandra Kramer. Row 2: Toni Alva, Lynette Williams, Elizabeth Tremblay, Monique Craft.
