You betchal When do we start? was Bill's characteristic answer to anyone's request for help at anytime. His earnest desire to be of service and his willingness to do for others, sometimes at a great personal sacrifice, endeared him to all who knew and associated with him. Bill loved people, especially young people and he enjoyed nothing more than seeing that boys and girls receive advan- tages and privileges that he, as a youth, did not have the opportunity of receiving. After spending his life as a farmer, twenty-nine years of it in the Blackwell area, Bill was forced to leave the farm because of physical condition, but he was not content to spend the remainder of his life doing nothing. lt was at this time that he joined the Blackwell school staff as a bus driver. As the months passed, Bill became more and more an integral part of the student's activities. The pupils who rode his bus found more than just a driver, they found -a man who was interested in them personally and adopted them as his fam- ily . When any activity group in the school needed a bus and driver for a trip,it was Bill who was always ready to go. For more than five years this big-hearted man gave him- self without reserve to the pupils, teachers, and administrators of the Blackwell schools. Early in the fall of l952 he was forced to give up his bus, but still wanting to be of service, he guarded the highway crossing for the children of Huston School until it was impossible for him to be up any longer. This dedication is humbly made in memory of Bill Ar- buckle, loving husband, kind father, good neighbor, and loyal friend. May we profit from his example in order that we may answer that final question of this life as Bill must have without hesitation, You betchal When do we start? -Dale E. Williams
