If he does not stem the current of events, it will carry him with it. The bee of prehistoric time made the honey just as the des- cendants of that bee makes honeycomb to-day, the bird that was contemporary with Adam built its nest in the same way the bird builds to-day: but man has advanced from the cave to the slcy scraper, from a mental capacity scarcely above the brute to an ability to comprehend the motion of the planets and calculate the velocity of light. The sum of man's ignorance is greater than the sum of knowledge. The more he learns the greater becomes the unknown world in his apprehension. There is no such thing as a finished education. At this time with all of our progress we stand on the Mount of Observation looking away towards a limitless prospect of life. Life is an arrow, therefore you must know 1Vhat mark to aim at, how to draw your bow. Then draw it to its head and let it go. HARRY HUS'l'0N. Amman SAWAGE President Secretary Treasurer Vice-President ltylgenior ass is roucl ofits ecor s HE CLASS of 1930 is strong in scholastic attainments, athletic prowess, and general school activities. It has furnished five presidents to scholastic organizations, two of pep organizations, and two presidents of religious organizations. Every athletic captain except one is a senior, and the class has reason to be proud of Leslie Schellestede, football captain g Ronald Broadwater, basketball captaing and Phil Slater, track captain. Eight letter men in football, three in basketball, and two in track are seniors. There are six seniors on the baseball team. In general school activities, too, the seniors are taking an unusually large part. The editor of the Buckshot, Vella Jonesg and Bessie Buck- ingham, is editor-in-chief of the Maroop Spirit. Vella Jones and Jim Miller upheld B. H. S. honors of the Central conference debate teams, and Vella Jones represented B. H. S. in the dramatic reading contest at Norman. The class as a whole contributed 5815.00 as blanket class subscription to the Buckshot, 315,00 as blanket admission to, one basketball game, and 555.00 as voluntary contribution to the debit! fund. The Senior Book club, has contributed 26 books to the high 'school library. In a general election, Neva Robinson was elected Maroon Princess. There are 31 boys and 22 girls who are working to pay part of all their expenses during the senior year. A Ninteen seniors have been rather consistently on the honor roll. Finally - and this is a real record - the members of the class of 1930 have all paid their class dues. ' One thingxtfor which the members are grateful is the fact that they have had Josephine Bell as sponsor. ' v . , , Tia , in ogy J, - , . .A Lf - . Hlyfqf 4 Tyr' .Z I nw. I A . The outstanding program of the Music Department this year was the annual Musicale presented in March by all the high school organization. As a part of this program Tschaikowsky's King Nutcracker, arranged .by Bornschein, was given in the form of a musical fantasy and ballet. Each year the response to calls from civic clubs, churches and school activities forms no small part of the year's program for the glee clubs and quartets. lit ni Wir. it JL A P' G: C' 5 in f ff ff- 1 i Ni i 2 t :ei 'f 'Wi ' X iii X 'lf LQ:-sm f will? tta' . i . 5 N mw f -. The Maroons after holding El Dorado, Kansas, to scoreless tie, ran up a string of five consecutive victories before meeting defeat at the hands of the Enid Plainsmen by the score of 13-0. The following week the Maroon clad forces held the powerful Guthrie Bluejays, who were headed for an undefeated season, to a scoreless game. Newkirk, Perry, Fairfax, Pawlmska, Guthrie, and Ponca City were conference victilns of the Fighting Maroons while Enid, Ponca City, Oklahoma City, El Reno, and Bartlesville scored wins over the Maroons. Practically all games lost were by very few points. One ot' the worst defeats the Maroons suffered was at the hands of Oklahoma City by a score of 22-13. In tournament play at Ponca City the Blackwell tive won out over Ponca in the finals but on going to the regional meet defeat was suffered at the hands of Bristow. This game was at Cushing. FACING thc 1930 schedule with no great amount of ability in their ranks, the track squad fell somewhat short of the marks set in recent years. Coach Commy VVhee1er had only two real scorers reporting. These were Phil Slater, captain of the squad, and Oswell Petty. Slater proved a big success in the quarter mile event while Petty was most consistent as a high jumper. Both of these boys scored a few points in the shorter dashes 'besides taking their regular place on the relay team. Johnson, in the 880, Ebright in the mile and Stafford and Linn in the field events also placed a few times. The first two composed the remainder of the relay team. The men were entered in the meet at Tonkawa, Wichita, Norman and Stillwater. Prospects for next year seein no brighter at the present with Petty and Slater graduating. Ebright, Johnson and Linn will return as will Skeen, a sophomore hurdler. TOP Row: Skecn, Johnson, Edmonds, Moutry, Sharp. ' restlin Going in the season with a team composed mostly of veterans, Coach Cotton's wrestlers met defeat only twice, that being by Geary in the initial lll8iCll of the year and to Cushing in the closing match. In the curtain raiser the Maroons lost by a three point margin, after driving all day through a terrible snow storm. They defeated Ponca City, Newkirk, Stillwater, Perry and Enid in easy fashion after the first setback. The c,,.m,,, Maroons shut out Ponca City by a 21-0 score and allowed Enid only three points. The other matches were tougher, though, but the locals were victorious. They entered the State tourney at Norman and Still- water, where they went good, placed third at the latter place. Several men won individual honors. The 1931 team will be just as strong, as several regulars will return. Only Clarence Welch and Leonard Noel will graduate. McAllister, inaugurated the 1930 season by win- ning an impressive 14-4 victory over the Southwestern College team from Winfield, Kansas. The Collegians were victorious by a 7-6 score in a return engagement. The Maroons played in hard luck from then on until winning from Ponca City on April 24. They dropped games to Ponca City and Oklahoma City that should have ended differently. MCALLI STER They did not enter the State tournament at Norman, but were repre- sented in the one at Stillwater. Prospects for 1931 seem very bright, as the infield with the exception of third baseman, will returng and Fred Clapper, right handed main- stay of the local pitching corps, will be back. Lloyd Williamson, a sophomore left hander, will probably see service on the mound, as will, likely be true of Gene Garton behind the bat. Dunning, Rider and Blair make up the returning infield.
