Our days have been filled vcith many things but may we carry with us the high standards of Black- stone in scholarship, sports¬ manship, womanliness, and fair-mindedness. Dr. J. C. Reed Lawrence C. Sullivan Trustee Blackstone College Trustee Blackstone College 1912-1935 1930-1935 O N January 7, 1935, at his home in Blackstone, Dr. J. C. Reed, in the 93rd year of his life, passed to his eternal reward. He was admitted to the ministry of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, in 1868, and continued in its effective ranks until his superannuation in 1922. During his long ministry he served many charges in the Virginia Annual Conference, and served several terms in the presiding eldership. He was a friend of man, a lover of righteousness, a faithful and fearless prophet of the Word of God, a progressive leader, an able administrator, a tireless worker, and, in all, a Christian saint. In his passing we have all suffered a loss; in his influence he has contrib¬ uted to us an imperishable gift. Mr. Lawrence C. Sullivan was born May 3, 1892 and died January 25, 1935. His faith and loyalty in his work for all good things was an inspiration. He was one of the most beloved leaders in the Church and Sunday School. His happy manner and cordial friendship blessed all who came in touch with him. The memory of this man will ever be cherished by his friends and his influence will live through the years. Seeking friends that make us nobler. Seeking truth that makes us free. Seeking courage, faith, and wisdom And the strength to triumph wrong. Hear, oh, hear us, loving Mother, As we lift to thee our song. Chorus Guide, oh guide us. Mother dear. May we ever feel thee near. May thy daughters live and love And grow forever. Mother dear. Oh, oh, Blackstone, here’s to thee, Here’s to truth that makes us free, Here’s to fame and praise and honor. And a student’s love for thee. Hail, oh Blackstone, Alma Mater, We with grateful hearts will sing. For we called and thou didst answer Did thy treasures to us bring. Did unfold to us the mysteries. Both of books and friendships true. Now thy daughters answer gladly, Here’s our love, Blackstone, for you. Oh, oh, Blackstone, Alma Mater, As we sing our parting lay. Life’s work calls; we dare not linger, Tho’ with thee we fain would stay. Parting comes, but we’ll remember These our happy college days. And be true to thee, dear Mother, Guide us with thy love, we pray. STUDENT DIRECTORY 19 3 5 C O R n Arnold, Maxine .310 S. Garth Avenue, Columbia, Mo. V Atkinson, Nora Mae .Crewe, Va. They have to come all the way from Africa. Shirley: For the last time I am asking you for that $2.00. Dot: Thank heaven, that’s over. Chapman: My feet hurt like the mischief. Do you suppose a mustard plaster would help them? C. Taylor: Sure, there’s nothing like mustard for hot dogs. There’s no book like a pocketbook when it comes to attracting attention.
