allies 81 Assemblie i Getting Together This year, rallies and assemblies were more exciting than ever before. The Sports Rallies entertained us while introducing us to our athletes. At the Spirit Rallies, the air was thick with excitement over the spirited competition between the classes. The Food and Toy Drive Assembly thrilled us with its skit and invited us to be generous towards the less fortunate of our community. Other assemblies celebrated our diversity, like the Black History Month Assembly in February. Although all of the asemblies and rallies we had over the course of the year were special, the one we'll remember most is when guest Michael Pritchard, the nationally known comedian, made us laugh with his comedy routine about peer-pressure and self-esteem. Hisisi if .liiititlt g Exhibit' lack Hi tory Month February Celebration Of Black Histor This year, the United Black Students Association CUBSAJ, shared the celebration of Black History Month with students, faculty, and guests of Bishop O'Dowd at its 7th annual assembly. The assembly opened with the singing of the Negro National Anthem, and included a keynote speaker, a student speaker, and a skit. The skit, entitled A Short Trip Through History written by senior Carris Ellis, was about four young people who go to a museum to find out about Black History, It featured African dancers, famous Americans of Black History who spoke about their ideas and contributions, and Harlem Renaissance dancers. O'Dowd's gospel choir joined in the celebration by singing as a part of the skit. The UBSA also held the same assembly on the following Sunday evening for parents and students from other schools. To acknowledge the fine accomplishments of Blacks in American history, daily P. A. announcements, written by senior Alison Harris, revealed notable facts and quotes b Black Americans, such as Martin Luther King, jr., and Thurgood Marshall. O'Dowd's celebration of Black History Month was concluded with a final P. A. announcement with a earnest message: i Black History is a part of everyones history, and learning about it should be a year-long activity. l Q 5 I' . gee' i .
