ARCHBISHOP JOHN F. NOLL, D.D. The death of Archbishop Noll on July 31, 1936, brought to a close eighty-one years of service dis¬ tinguished by many accomplishments not often found in the record of one life. Except for his student days, he spent his entire life in the Diocese of Fort Wayne. Born on January 25, 1875, Archbishop Noll was baptized, received his first Holy Communion, was confirmed, ordained a priest, offered his first Mass, was consecrated a bishop, observed the Golden Jubilee of his priesthood and the Silver Jubilee of his episcopacy in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of Fort Wayne. After serving as a priest in several parishes in the Diocese, he was appointed pastor of St. Mary ' s Parish in Huntington- It was in that city in 1912 that he founded OUR SUNDAY VISITOR which has be¬ come a weekly visitor in thousands of homes from coast to coast. In 1925 he was consecrated and installed as the fifth Bishop of the Diocese of Fort Wayne. It would be impossible to state here all the achievements of a life so rich, full, and active almost to the end. Mention must be made, however, of his great bene¬ ficence and interest in this high school named in his honor. It was he who purchased the property from the Poor Handmaid Sisters who originally established the school. He liekwise financed a great portion of the cost of the eighteen room addition dedicated in 1947. In every part of the Diocese of Fort Wayne and in many places beyond it, there are evidences of the devoted labor of Archbishop Noll. These will stand for many generations in the history of the Catholic Church in America as enduring monuments to his memory, bearing witness to his claim upon our grateful prayers. As he was completely dedicated to serving his Master and in leading souls to Him, so now may the Great High Priest be generous and merciful to him and grant him eternal rest and peace. 6
