They meet regularly to write letters on behalf of people who are tortured and impris- oned solely because of their political and religious convictions. They write to countries such as South Africa, the U.S.S.R., El Salvador and Guate- mala, requesting better treatment and an end to human rights abuses. Amnesty International ' s success rate is encouraging: in 60% of their cases there is significant improve- ment in the treatment of prisoners. 44

The French and Spanish club members consists of students that have studied the language for three to four years. These clubs are designed to study the cultures in detail through the writings, foods, and art. One of the Spanish club ' s projects is to take a field trip to Olvera Street to experience the Latino and Mexican cultures. The French clubs objective is to go to a French restaurant to taste the culture ' s cuisine.
