I f I I ' ' l 2 SWTMMHNG TEAM The first defeat was absorbed on the eve of Washingtons Birthday at the hands of Columbia Grammar, the Private Schools Champs, the last event, the dive, deciding the very close meet, 34-33. Bill lrwin won in his specialty, the 100 yard freestyle, while George McVey, Dick Delgado and Frank Cunningham captured seconds. The dual meet with Columbia Grammar was in a way a preview of the Private Schools Championship. The Purple and Gold squad put up a thrilling fight but lost the championship by a close margin on a disputed decision. Bill Nugent, Prank Cunningham, Tom Ryan and Bill lrwin were the only winners for Loughlin. When the final results had been tabulated, it was disclosed that the Loughlin team had Won silver awards in the Azarias lnvitation Debate Tournament.
