Golfers Play to Par Under the guidance of Coach Arenson, the golf team had an outstanding year. Senior J ack Neal and Brett Williams led Kelley to team placings at the Conference and Regional Tournament. Jack Neal led the team at regionals with a fourth place medalist finish. Williams also finished in the top ten as the entire team qualified for the state meet. The team had previously finished fourth at the regionals and second in the Conference. The other members of the varsity who played at state were Junior Mike Beck, Sophomore Mike Reasor and Freshman Jamie 'fea W Thomas. g,.t,, C 1 Missy Leos placed second in Metro and qualified for state. Girls Finish With Heartbreak Despite high hopes and a winter of hard work, the Kelley girls, soccer team ended its season with two disappointing defeats in division play. After winning their first three games, one against Broken Arrow and two against Bixby, the Comets suffered a heartbreaking tie with Washington, as the Hornets tied the score with seconds remaining in the game. Following victories over Monte Cassino and Memorial, the girls played Edison. Playing in high wind throughout, the girls lost in a shootout. The girls closed their season with a loss to Jenks. Injuries and poor practice weather hampered the Comets, but the girls displayed fine effort all year. Back Row: Pam Farry, Denise Piter, Mary Weeldryer. Led by captain Lara Birmingham, co- captain Diana Crane and other seniors, Shannon Burke and Jane Bradshaw, the pom pon squad performed impressively this year. The team performed at half- time of home football and basketball games, but their work began long before football season opened. The girls practic- ed every morning during the summer and attended camp at Kansas State University. They brought home first place and a trophy for along with a spirit stick for showing extra enthusiasm dur- ing their week at camp. This year's team consisted of fourteen members with four seniors, five juniors and seven sophomores. Mrs. Allen sponsored the team for the fifth year. 1. Wouldn't Shelly's dentist be proud? 2. Hands up pom pon girls! You're under an arrest. 3. Lara and Lainie keep to the beat.
